I think this is a US only service at the moment - so unless your based there, you might not have any chance of using the service even with an invite.

As mentioned earlier it will be difficult for Google Voice to be rolled out (at least in its current offerings) in the UK (or anywhere in Western Europe for that matter) due to the massively expensive rates for calling mobiles. For some bizarre (and largely inexplicable reason to me as an American) calling mobiles in Europe is prohibitively expensive and for Google to retain the similar set up as they have currently done in US, it would hard for them to setup such a network especially if it were free. If they had some sort of a subscription model, it could be a possibility but I wouldn't hold my breath since GV hasn't even opened up to the general US populace.
Moreover, when GV stated it had an international desires, it was more aiming towards US based GV users which would like to forward to international numbers when traveling so that people could simply dial someone on their US Google Voice number and reach their contact at their local number.
