Got my 53 SL55 AMG yesterday, nav questions!

Hi all,

New to the forum and new to Mercs!

I just purchased a 2003 53 (517) SL55 AMG with all the toys and 30k miles.
I was looking at getting the 54 onwards year based on the newer Nav system but this one came up at a great price that i couldnt refuse. So am i able to upgrade the nav unti to the lastest spec to improve looks and features?
Also it has the cradle for a phone, can i change this to work with bluetooth on my blackberry?
And lastly how can i integrate my ipod? i guess that is relevant to both unit types assuming i could upgrade?

To change your navigation unit to a newer one will be a very costly exercise as you will need to change the centre console trim (frighteningly expensive) plus a whole host of electrics if you want the phone to still work.

The easiest options for you would be to install the Dension gateway 500 for the ipod as there is no Mercedes kit made for the SL unless you get a MY2009 car! the phone can probably easily be upgraded to bluetooth. If its a Nokia 6150, 6210 or 6310i type cradle then all you need is a Viseeo MBU-1000.

Okay, email me your chassis number to [email protected] and i'll tell you precisely what you need for phone and ipod.

Changing the comand unit itself and associated wiring and trim is lots and lots and lots. You would be better off changing the car!
