BMW BMW BMW

You can then join the defectors lounge ! :D :D

Seriously mate, I wouldn't sell your car after all those mods - I'm still regretting having sold mine with everything that I had spent on it ! Would you remove the mods, or leave it as it is ?

Get a larger engined car Greg - you only live once mate. You don't do many miles a year, do you?

Next year I'm looking at a 5 litre beast at the minimum. CL500 or E55 for sure.

I dont really know. I suppose it depends who bought it. If a dealer was just going to chuck it away at auction then I could dismantle it ( ) but if it was to someone who appreciated it I'd leave it as it was apart from Smart nav which is coming with me as it is excellent!)

RE BMW. I have driven the new 3 series and it is up there as "a car I could own" . Mercedes still has a presence that most cars dont, Audi A4 maybe......

My wife has ruled out Alfa ( :( ) as it wont work and depreciates like a brick even though it looks nice and goes well, Mazda 6 2.3 Sport on the grounds that it is a Mazda.

Thats part of the proplem I'm driving 17-18k a year and in my car it cost a fortune. I'd love an AMG car but we have always bought new and then kept them a while.....

Edit Optimax or Super isn't cheap!

Two cars, both fleet, both about 18 months old, both have been sitting in a carpark going nowhere for a couple of months. One is an Audi and one is an Alfa, guess which one refused to start... The Alfa of course!

You can destroy any mazda owner in seconds with just two words: "zoom zoom" ;)

I'm driving between 20 - 30K a year. Although unlike you, I always let some other poor sod take the hit on depreciation, then buy a quality motor for a song.

I too have the same quandry...yet again. I really want another MB but nothing in my budget is interesting me. Looks like a C220 or 270 CDi at the moment. I also tend to keep my cars along time so dont want to buy a non MB and then regret it as changing again will mean even less money to play with.

The other thing that is worrying me is that my budget is only going to get me 2001/2002 C class are these reliable? Like the facelifted C class but not allowed to spend that much.

Similar money will buy me the new shape Audi A4 Tdi.

Currently I do approx 20K a year but that may come down next year if I stop driving to work, so is the diesel worth it or should I just get a petrol. Ideally I want a car with abit of go but also with reasonable economy.

Diesel is totally worth it , if its your daily driver , motoring mag did a test and the diesel worked out cheaper in as less as 2k miles

Thanks for that, at least I have one less decision to make.

I dont like the 3 series so thats out but the previous shape 5 series and the A4 Tdi are really tempting.

Decisions decisions

Quite right - go for a diesel if you have never had one before - the single best point about my car !

If anybody wants a drive in my previous shape diesel 5 series at the SE GTG, then just ask ! :)

I second that Sym..... driving a 05 525d Sport tourer at the mo and love it..... Graphite grey and black leather... I actually prefer the tourer to the saloon.... just my personal taste...

Very nice cars....

LPG is sooo not the way..

Diesel is the way :)

The idea of something as combustable as LPG in my car doesnt exactly excite me either come to think of it never mind the HUGE extra bills you will get not too long down the line , not to mention how it devalues the car.

A W203 (saloon) CDI engine - mate of mine bought one (Avantgarde) just before Xmas and it is lovely and in good condition. Makes me miss mine after seeing his... :(

He too (ironically had a W202 (one of the last few to come off the prodoction line (W reg) in black and his is up for sale now... He loves his W203 too bits and will be joining this forum as already has a list of mods to do to his new motor...

You knew I was going to reply to this Fuzzer so here it goes :D

Why is it all Diesel owners slag off LPG?? Whilst LPG owners do not slag off Diesel

Driving an oil burner does not excite me either!! but I do not keep going on about it! I see the benifits from both sides but like to let people know about LPG before being bulldosed by people into buying Diesel.

I ran a C220 CDI for 3 years so I have been on 'the other side' and I now save way over £200 per month vs. the Diesel (now in an E-Class, larger car) with 30k per year so it works for me. And I prefer the quieter motorway driving!

Huge extra bills down the line?? for what exactly?? Servicing intervalls can be extended by +5k as oil stays cleaner, engine wear is reduced due to LPG running smoother (at over 100 RON) and hardly any carbon emmisions, let alone the enviroment benifits vs. ULP/Diesel.

Devalues the car?? 2nd hand sales of LPG cars is way above the average guide prices. Or you can take the kit off and use it on the next car in most cases!

I know there are only 2-3 LPG Merc users on here (who sing its praises) thus we dont have the backing that the 'Diesel masses' have but some of us have owned Diesel in the past. How many Diesel owners have had LPG?

If you have proof of any of the above that you have said then its fair comment, if not people should know this is only 'your personal view' not fact.

do it before petrol runs out or becomes really ridiculously expensive .. as opposed to just plain expensive at the moment :D :D
