Great, Had was meant to pick the 53 Plate C270 Saloon up on Monday and was told they thought it had a leaky injector seal.

Well Tuesday got a call it was all done so popped down, did the paperwork and got in, turned the key and it was a lumpy and kinda
fluttered a bit before breaking into a rev.....so alarm bells were ringing a bit there.

On driving it seem to smoke a little but its a diesel so I just carried on, filled up and got ready to leave and noticed it was putting a bit of smoke out the
exhaust still (after 20 mins of idle and a 10 minute run that should not be smoking as far as I am aware (was not much but enough to notice)

Set off up the duel carriage way and put my foot down and it jumped into Neutral and limp mode with the engine management light on.

Called dealer to return the car and on the way back there was LOTS of blue smoke coming from the car on acceleration
Got to the dealer and it was like a gas bomb under the bonnet, after getting the kids out and the wife, and when the smoke cleared, it seems the engine cover had taken a hit from the underside, like something had hit it a great force and there was oil or diesel all over the engine cover on the top of the engine.
It looked like it had taken a shot gun round from the inside.

Dealer mechanic thinks the Injector let go and was not fitted right and the injector has blow out of the engine and into the casing.

This was yesterday at 5pm, he offered to fix it or offer a refund.

How serious is this guys, because it looked pretty bad to me, but I'm not as experienced as a lot of you guys.

If the injector has sheered off and threaded itself it will need to be re tapped? It has a full merc history, and is a lovely car but this really worry's me.
We will be getting a call in a few hours to find out what the score is.

What do you guys think?:dk::dk::dk::dk:

Get your money back and walk away.....lots of used cars out there.

Also with the gearbox jumping in N From Drive, would that be because it realized that there was a problem with the Injector? and was protecting its self or do I also potentially have a problem there too?
I am thinking that the lumpy idle must have been part of this problem too, as the problem injector must have not been putting the same amount of fuel or compression into its cylinder so the revs only smoothed out when they went higher and the others kinda carried it along?

God I wish I was more mechanical then I'd have a better understanding of how serious or not this is!

There ia lots on here about dodgy injectors. Not sure if its the same engine but worth checking. Personally I would get your money back asap.

You're definitely better walking; for him to have made that offer, he knows it's better too. Neither of you will trust the car again while you have it.

Walk away. My son bought a 270cdi and day one the engine blew. Cost £3k to rebuild (new Mb Cylinder head, injectors, con rods, pistons etc)

I guess you have got the general consensus now.....walk away.

I should imagine the reason the previous owner got shut was because it needed lots spending getting it up to standard. There are lots of nice engines out there....the 270 is a good engine just not this example ;)

I just called them and now the salesman has said he will have to ask his boss if its ok to refund us?

Sounds a little odd to me now, and we have to wait a few days for an answer if its ok or not.
Have contacted Trading Standards and drafted a letter ready, just want the money back now so we can get on a find a replacement.

Wish us luck!

Walk

If thats gone wrong in 20mins what else could...

They said they are taking it to a Diesel specialist who will be fixing it and I am waiting to see if they will give me a refund :(

If not it could get ugly.

Could the smoke in the exhaust be caused by a leaky injector
and could the gearbox jumping into N and going into limp be caused by this also?
Maybe as a safety measure?

I guess it could have been the car protecting itself?

When I was accelerating tue smoke could have been diesel pouring from the injector seal and onto hot areas then going under the car making me suspect it was the exhaust? or could it be a bit of both?

What I am basically thinking is if it's all related to the damd injector then maybe if they get it fixed professionally it could still be a good car?

Re-focus, my man, refund - stay calm, wait them out a bit. Prep your case and go for the refund - car sounds like a pup.

I hope you have done nothing that could be construed as accepting a repair - like being told that it is being repaired and then doing nothing and just waiting. Get your rejection letter, sale of goods act, blah blah blah in right now BEFORE they repair it. Just get your money.

+1. Get your money back +the cost of the fuel you put in or drain it and run like the hounds of hell are breathing on your butt cheeks!:eek:

I have not accepted repair, I called this morning and said I want a refund as I am not happy about it at all.
He is going to talk to the boss in the next 24hrs about giving us a refund.
I have drafted my letter (did it this morning) will wait 24 hours to hear back as i don't want to send it off quoting legal action and sales of goods act 1979 if they have already agreed a refund lol

Anyone got a merc they wanna sell if I get my money back?
lol
