Nylons....and obesity.

I always thought it was called nylon because it was created in New York and LONdon at the same time....
 
Well I suppose you could count a Welshman....

William Robert Grove, possibly one of the most overlooked inventors.

In 1842 he produced the "Gas Voltaic Battery". Nowdays we call them Fuel Cells.
 
Not strictly an invention but maybe the most important of all - the English language !
 
And did I miss seeing on here the hovercraft ?
 
Most inventions originated in Europe somewhere (UK, France, Italy and Germany) during the age of enlightment where governments threw money at brilliant people. Not so much these days...

On a nod to the Americans though Viagra was invented there
