Well I have been having a weird juddering at 1200 rpm my CLS320

was never sure what it was as it went away after a few miles.

merc solutions took a look at it.... and it's the turbo :-(

Leave it idling for a few minutes and then rev it and just plumes of smoke get chucked out.

really sucks as we just bought a new house as well and have zero cash to fix it.

What else will need changed at the same time as I start to go hunting for parts on ebay and classifieds.?

It still drives fine and it's just starting to go. Called the garage I got it from (an till got 2 months warranty left) but the warranty company classifies seals as wear and tear so garage won't do anything... is that right ? I wouldn't expect the turbo to fail 4 months into ownership (granted it's on 90k)

Cheapest option is getting yours reconditioned or buy a recon and send yours as an exchange unit.

Get the turbo off first to double check its not the inlet manifold that's broken up and sucked through the turbo. This is a common cause for the turbo going.

If it's not that then that's good news, depending on parts that are gone you could buy a repair kit which will replace seals and variable veins actuator. Cost is around £130 for parts and a specialist would probably do it all for £300 all in if he's happy to do it.

You also have the option of a second hand turbo at around £250/£300.

I had a turbo go on the same engine due to the broken manifold. Bloody expensive that one is.

Where do you guys feel that I stand with this?

Purchased the car 4 months ago from an independent garage.

It came with a 6 month warranty (but with another company)

I called the garage I purchased it from and they said call the warranty company. Now I am fairly confident it's the seals that are worn out and need replaced as the inter oiler pipe is filling with oil so it's clearly leaking through.

The warranty company only cover mechanical breakdown
.. which is not the seals.

now surely something is not right if the turbo fails 4 months after getting the car.

are the garage still liable for this repair?

Thanks

If you bought it from a dealer it should be fit for purpose by law within the first 6 months. Turbo seals are not really wear and tear in my eyes. Fight it with the garage and warranty company they may contribute but you won't get full repair costs.

Spoke to warranty company and turbo seals are "wear and tear" so won't get anywhere with them!

If you leave it idling for 2-3 minutes and rev it, it's like a smoke screen and you can hear the turbo whining

Surely the Turbo as a Whole is a Mechanical Part?
How do they know its the seals? has it been stripped?

You wouldnt just buy the seals and refit.

I have spoken to the garage i bought the car from as there were also discrepancies with the car when iIppurchased it.

rThey are calling me back tomorrow morning to dis cuss
rebuilt turbo is 390 hhopefully manifold is not damaged
