Here's what you should get taken from a very similar car..(but silver), on a very similar route on March 9th some years ago....
But if your try hard you could get the higher figure!

Will go extreme.... 51MPG. On similar long trip with not passengers etc. I can get 31-32 MPG on my 911 so on a smaller engine diesel I expect more

An in line 6 in 'our old cars' would beat that figure, hands down.
They're lighter now than when they left the line.

I'm just too tight and anyway that only gets you to the traffic jam just north of J12 a bit quicker.
There's not much that would persuade me onto the M6 north on Friday night. Couple of years ago flew out of Manchester Sat evening, even then it was crap, never again.
Thread was great fun though and not a bad result.

Yeh, just a bit of dull fun.
It's usually the m42 that's stuffed.
Half a tank for 400 miles is superb. In theory I could drive home on one tank, top gear style [emoji1316]

Too many variables involved, the other post with over 50mpg doesn't look realistic, that must involve some very gentle acceleration and minimal breaking for the majority of the journey.

thats not too bad, I drove back home from Preston yesterday (I live in Bedfordshire) and set cruise control for most of the journey. some parts of it were sitting at 50/55mph during the roadworks, and the rest I'd set it to 70 and had the odd boot here and there. I had filled up at Costco in haydock during the day, the journey home gave me 53.6mpg, which I thought was fantastic considering its a C350 CDI
