I heard a metallic rattle from my engine bay and thought I'd better get the car to PCS. Probably nothing serious but better safe than sorry.

Now apparently this one is a first for Olly - can anyone guess the problem?

The harmonic damper has broken up allowing the pulley to part. Common fault.

Common on the 112 and 113 engine but not a 320CDI.

Spot on.

Apparently it's quite common on V engines but Olly has not seen it before on an I6 320CDI. Think we caught it just in time

[Olly beat me to it!]

Never seen that on a 613 engine before

I wonder if at some point in its life it has had a fuel leak from the high pressure pump or o rings which has got to the rubber on the pulley?
If that's the case think we will all see a lot of these

None the wiser as to why, but fixed and sounding a lot healthier. The whole thing had fallen apart.

Just waiting for the next issue to roll up now..
