Just came indoors from doing this so I thought I'd be a helpful chap & post this "How To".:)

To change fog lamp bulbs on a 2001 W203 C Class with halogen lamps (most likely the later face lift models will be the same unless they are Xenon's) you will need nothing more than a 10mm spanner or socket & new bulbs of course. It's an easy job & shouldn't take more than about 10 minutes.
  1. Start the car & turn the steering wheel to full lock either right or left, then turn the car off.
  2. If the wheel is turned to the left then work on the left hand bulb or vice versa. This will then give you room to reach inside the front of the wheel arch.
  3. Look in the front of the wheel arch & you will see that the liner is held in place by 3 x 10mm tapered bolts.
  4. Undo & remove the bolts then gently pull the bottom of the wheel arch liner away (You don't have to remove it fully, just move it out enough to get your hand inside)
  5. Look in the cavity & you will see the back of the foglamp assembly.
  6. The foglamp bulb is connected by a small wiring harness at a 90 degree angle in relation to the bulb - push in the small securing clip & gently pull down on the connector to disengage it from the back of the bulb.
  7. Gently push the back of the bulb holder & turn anti-clockwise. The bulb holder is on a bayonet type fitting with 3 x securing lugs & it should release at this point.
  8. Remove the bulb & replace with the new one taking car not to touch the glass with your fingers.
  9. Re-assemble in reverse order taking care to position the wheel arch liner correctly before re-tightening the securing bolts.
  10. Turn the steering wheel to the opposite lock & work on the other foglamp as above.
That's it! :bannana:

All you need to do is make sure you get the correct bulbs. They are HB4 55w bulbs & NOT H1 bulbs as one of the internet bulb fitting guides advised me.

Hope this helps some folks.

Mark,

Are the bulbs part of the holder?

Just want to avoid purchasing mistakes

i tried doing it today but the access was blocked by some sort of fluid container

Hi, new Merc owner and loving it.

Yep same, had to replace the fog light on the drivers side, no problem to fit a new unit with ice white bulbs, lovely ;-)

Then went to change the passenger side bulb to the same and ah...washer bottle unit in the way, i'm guessing for the headlight washers?

Anyone know of a straight forward way to change the bulb, or does the whole bumper need to come off?

Just had same problem with my friends 2005 C180k .Washer bottle , cables etc blocking access to fog lamp. As per above post anyone know the answer?

You can access it from underneath after moving the undertray. It doesn’t need to be removed completely just enough to get your arm in.

Thanks , I removed the 4 bolts to pull down the flap , assumed the underside was "riveted" , so they are in fact removeable?
