Hello, auld beardy here again.Robert

i just had a A service done in glasgow area and one unexpected item replaced was the rear
left link, coupling rod, and stabiliser bar . .
Was charged item at 1.25 hours labour (£90) and £40 for the parts.

Also abs light was to be checked. They charged £108 labour ,1.5 hours, to swap over a new wheel speed sensor, and £59 for the part. I drove 200 yards down road and wheel sensor light came on. Returned to garage and as they were busy, was told to return later in a couple of days for a reinspection. I received a call today saying it would be another £189 to be put right. Am I getting overcharged?

All replies appreciated.

£72 per hour is probably about right for an indie these days. However, their work on the wheel sensor should be guaranteed, so it depends on what the problem is; you need to know if the current issue is related to their work or if it's a new one.

Can you tell us who the indie is?

Ernie

Had an ML with exactly same issue, had one wheel sensor repaired at Indi who was 75 miles from home. I got 30 miles away on return home after paying for the repairs then warning light appears again. Turned around and when I got to the garage discovered the other rear wheel sensor had gone , yet another invoice. No complaint from me , no further problems after that.

Hi Ernie, l dont want to detail indi garage at moment. I need to understand what the real issue here is. They coulnt estimate initial sensor fault cost without obviously inspecting it. So how can they now ask for another £189 before another inspecton? When i returned to garage, he muttered somthing about thr bolt not touching the ring?

Apreciate you advice.

As I said, I think you need to ask some questions about the details of what they plan to inspect, as clearly a re-inspection of work they have already carried out should be down to them. Others could say, but I'm not sure if a scan would identify which wheel had the problem, and you could take it from there. Perhaps ask them to run a scan on the car to help clarify?

Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction.

Ernie
