Good morning,
car has developed a gurgling sound (MB C220 Cdi Blue Eff Estate) near the back drivers side wheel arch. It sounds like fuel trying to pump or release. If you switch the ignition lights on the noise lasts for 20 seconds or so and then stops. Have realised fuel cap but no vacuum build up. The sound is causing the car to start off in a jerking motion and then clears after a while. This is happening whenever you start off.
Any ideas from anyone please ?

Have now stripped out back seat and it seems if I disconnect the unit behind the drivers seat the gurgling/liquid noise stops. IMG_1936.JPG IMG_1937.JPG
I am assuming this is the in tank pump.
Easy to change ?

Not had any dealings with this type of motor. Shoot me down if I am wrong but that looks like it could be an ad blue tank?. It may be empty.

If it was adblue and empty the car wouldn't be driving would it?

I have no idea. Just a thought as it looks like some kind of tank.

Here's the WIS doc for replacing the fuel pump on a W203 with 646 engine.

Looks pretty much to be the same as in your photo.

Co-incidently it looks an amazingly similar set up to a BMW E46, in which I have just replaced the fuel pump in about 20 mins flat.
On the BMW, I used a screwdriver and hammer (gently ish) to undo and fasten the large ring nut.

Does this car have two fuel tanks..with a pump between them?

Don't think adblue in a 203 (could be wrong though).

Many thanks for that, looks easy enough so will give it a go.

You would also have a dash warning light as well. Thanks.
