The W203 was in the garage today having some work done. I had a call from the owner at lunch time telling me that someone walked into the workshop and drove off with my car!
In the process of exiting the workshop in a hurry, the b*****d smashed the o/s/r door into the wall of the garage and left behind the rubbing strip. :(
They had just put the car on the ramp ready to be worked on (- new alternator to be fitted), when someone entered the workshop and drove off with it.
Local Police reckon if it does not surface in 72 hrs, I can kiss goodbye to it. The insurance companies are talking, and should hopefully get a settled value in 14 days. I'm picking up the loaner car in the morning.
GUTTED!
Had the car just over a year, new tyres, new MoT, new alternator in the car ready to be fitted, new 6310i module just installed.
The search is on for a replacement car now......

Sorry to hear about this.

Better get looking in the autotrader for what its worth for numerous calls to your insurance company.

Gee, that's really extreme. Sorry to hear of your loss, that must have been a strange conversation with the garage.

Forget looking in the Autotrader, dealer forcourts is the way to go.

Sorry to hear that. I hope the garage is looking after you - was it an MB dealer??

Seriously bad luck there, I assume it's all being covered by the garage's insurance rather than your own!

Doubt it if the "owner" called him, but I could be mistaken.

Thanks for the messages guys.

It was at an indy garage - and the owner called me to give me the news. My family have been using the garage for a few years and have gotten to know the staff there.
My insurance company are talking with the garage's insurance co. As it was not my fault there is no XS to pay. Its going to be fun agreeing on a value.

Lovely world we live in, isn't it ! Gutted for you.

Nice car - quite a rare spec too - should make it easily identifiable if it turns up, but if not, make sure you get the full value with the extras !

OH No:( Have you got photos of your car with its number plates on and then we can all keep an eye out?

Just dont know what to say. I feel shattered for you. Bloody cheeky way to nick a car though. I really DO hope you get more than you want in compensation.

 i feel for you chap, i hope you get a decent settlement from the insurance :)

 Such nice people about with respect for others property.

Hope everything works out ok.

Sorry to hear the news matey...

No offence but I doubt it will be resolved within 14 days... When inusurance companies do settlements for stolens car (especially Motor Trade) and circumstances such as this they wait 14 days before sending an investigator to take ful statements from yourself i.e what time you left the car there, where did you leave it etc. Reason they wait 14 days is becasue they know that after this period it is very unlikely that the car will turn up... They will visit you to get the V5 and spare key (s) off you. After that the file is passed over to an Accessor/engineer and thats usually where the delay is and you have to chase them for a settlement...

I hope that you get a decent figure... When mine was written off it had taken ages for and i only just got my settlement this month (but things did get very nasty with the third party but I won in the end :) ). First offer was a joke and so was the second but the third offer (the settlement) was reasonable...

I'm on the same boat as you now looking for my replacement but am going to have to wait even longer as the W221 is not launched until March... :(

Sorry to hear of the loss of your car. Be very careful about the insurance situation. :( Despite assurances about "no blame " insurance companies are a hard headed bunch. It will still be recorded as a substantial "claim" on your policy. This will count for future premiums despite what they say and if you change companies in the future its on your record ?? The claim of loss should be from the garage's policy not yours, and your insurance record should reflect that. Several years back in icy conditions I had a minor "ding" with a Ford Scorpio. No damage done, but because the other owner was a bit concerned in case of hidden damage- there wasnt any- names addresses insurance details were exchanged and I duly informed my insurance company. The Ford owner subsequently informed me his garage had inspected his car and there was no damage and no claim was made on either policy. Imagine my surprise the following year when the renewal insurance document listed " a claim" on the date of the incident. When I enquired about this I was told by insurance company that the claim entry was due to the fact I had had an accident on that date. Yes I said I did have an accident BUT I made no claim. If you had put "accident-no claim made " on the renewal document I would have no objection I said, but to me the word "claim" means you paid out money which you did not. IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO US was their reply. Damned if you do damned if you dont! So beware and be prepared to change companies next renewal . ;)

There are pics in the Gallery but, its probably locked up somewhere for a while, to be shipped off somewhere in a container - or be stripped down for parts.

The car is a 2001 and has a cherished plate on it which which begins J33. Not many W203s with 'J' prefix in Aragonite Blue knocking around - especially with a badly smacked o/s/r door! :(

Get MB to deactivate/disable the key (electronically) if you REALLY want the car back BUT if you were to do that then there is a possibilty that it may show up (if stolen to order) BUT will not be in the same condition obviously as you know it has been damaged upon the theft... Chances are it shall get stripped/broken for parts anyway if you do get the key disabled...

Be nice though to see the look of shock on the face of the thieves (s) if you did get the key disabled by MB and the car no longer starts... ;)

Disabling keys requires physical access to the vehicle though!

Sorry - I did not know that... I used to think that MB could do it via the compuer or something... Looks lke the b@stards have got away with it then....

Weird to nick a car off the ramp ... you'd have no idea what was being done to it (and therefore how driveable it was)??
