w124 230e manual white amg kit+ Yreg W210 E320 Tekiti Grey 7seater hadGina w124 E200te blue 7seater
right if you guys have been following me then you know where i am, i have been having problems passing 5,000 revs on my manual 230e which has now turnd into flatspot missfire when warm!
I reluctantly changed the leads n plugs which did make a slight differance but still got hurendous missfire so i cleaned the idle control valve out, again no differance i looked at the dizzy cap and arm the cap looked quite good but im not sure about the arm i cant remember if the arm is ment to have contact material on it or be clean metal?
so if the arm isnt the cause what else can it be?????????????:(

cheers chris

On my old 230ce , the dizzy cap looked fine until you tightened up the bolt , which then opened up a hairline crack invisible to the naked eye when the cap was off.

did this aslo cause the above problems howard my friend?

When the dizzy cap on our old 300e-24 got a tiny crack in it the car would not start at all. To me the symptoms you have sound like something else but I dont really know what. Sorry.

Mine would run , but would stutter badly when you put your foot down.

that is exactly it my friend but did yours sound lumpy/ missfire???

So long ago , i can't remember exactly ..... sorry.

Have a look at the dizzy cap and try and 'pull it apart' , if there is a crack , you will see it.

Did you put genuine HT leads on it ? i was always told to use OEM , as pattern ones were crap.

If in any doubt, replace the distributor cap and rotor arm. Consumable item and I've seen quite a few faulty/worn out ones on M102 engines over the years causing misfires. They sometimes crack as Howard says, which shows up as a misfire when warm as the cap expands.

I'd stick to a BERU cap and rotor arm, about £20/25 from GSF (I usually avoid them, but on certain items they can be ok!). I've had more trouble with Bosch M102 caps and rotors than BERU :)

(BERU are an OE supplier to Mercedes-Benz - and are original equipment for HT leads, plugs etc - German made and top quality)

If your HT leads are duff I can sort you out a full set of new Bosch leads at a very good price (£20 + postage).

right then guys here's one for you! i replaced the dizzy cap and arm and all was well in the world after a 30min drive with no issues what so ever, then after leaving my mates garage doing some work to the estate, 5min from my house, she was dead cold and i noticed a little flat spot here and there then by the time i reversed into the car park we were back where we started with poor idle and sounding like shes running on 2 cylinders:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

am i right in thinking that my next point of call is tomorrow to check all the fuel lines for leaks?

its just strange how it was perfect, i mean hadn't run that good since ive owned her to the above problems in less then an hrs driving, what is going on arhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Check out the engine management unit located on the passengers inner wing. There is a sealant under it that may have deteriorated.

thank you ian i will look tommorow:thumb: is this a common problem then????

right guys your gunna love this!
I phoned Rob at 3 poitned parts and he conquered with Ians diagnosis, so i drove down the motor way with abit of lag but high revs seemed to go quite well!
We switched EM and low and behold the problem was solved after taking her for a test drive.:D
so on the drive back on the M5 we were happily driving along ranging from 80-95mph when just buy the brigwater junction i noticed alittle stutter i shrugged it off as fort i had just not put my foot down far enough then when exiting the M5 hitting the round about she starting running on 2 again then with a high clutch rev she was fine, untill i let a car out and she almost lost idle :( then she sprang back into life i fort brill just a dodgy 5min nothing to wurry about, then we come to today when low and behold when she got to about 50c she was sluggish as hell and when sat idleing sounds like shes running on 3 now:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash: i double checked for fuel leaks couldnt find any what is goin on:confused::confused::confused::confused:

just had to move the tempromental old cow and she cut out twice also sounds like the exhuast is loose but cant see any problems could back pressur be responsable?????

Bump

?????

right today i changed the fuel filter and it seemed good on idle however a quick drive round to my dads and she was lagging again my fuel pump is making an electric hisssing sound if that makes sence lol im going to get my friend todo a compression test and diagnostic check 2night and se ware we stand other wise she will b selling for £1000 ovno so watch this space :(
