Ha Ha Ha.

Hybrid cars 'don't save motorists money' - Telegraph:bannana:
It concluded that only one hybrid car cost less to buy and then run over a period of five years than its more conventional petrol-powered counterpart.
That was the Mercedes S400 Hybrid Sedan which was found to cost $5,000 (£3,200) less to own and operate.
Hybrid cars are still at a relatively early stage of their development and as such use technology that has been expensive to bring to the market.

They are therefore not designed to save the owner money, rather than to use less fossil fuel which is only part of the overall cost of running a car.

Having said that, there have been various reports suggesting that the fuel economy figures for these hybrids have been exaggerated to help them appeal to the 'green' motorist.

I thought the whole point of Hybrids was to cost more, so that their owners could assuage their guilt for 'ruining' the planet by buying the equivalent of a mediaeval indulgence for sin....

So owning/driving a Toyota Prius = self flagelation? Hmmm... that notion makes a great deal of sense ;)
