I've finally had enough of the 'Comand' unit in my W208, so it's going....it's had an annoying crackle in one of the door speakers since I bought the car 2 years ago & I've finally cracked.

Does anyone have any recommendations/advice for the swap out?

Cheers

I am installing a Pioneer F900BT in my W208 tomorrow - I will let you know how I get on one thing is for sure, the menus and everything should be a lot mor modern.

The only thing to consider is that the crackle in the speaker may not be caused by your Command unit but by some faulty wiring, in which case you may have the same problem irrespective of the head unit.

The crackle is more likely to be the speaker itself than the Comand unit.

Thanks for the reply....I had the speakers replaced a while ago, but the 'crackle' remains....I'm guessing the cabling will have to go too.

How old is your car ?

Theres a firmware update (from MY2001) for COMAND 2.0 that fixes a bug that causes noise (crackle) on 1 speaker.

Hi Richard, thanks for the reply. The car is a 2002 CLK 320 convertible, so could be a solution.....what's involved in the update?

It's an early 2002 model with full Merc service history....so I'd presume that the updates would have been installed already. Is there any way of telling before getting one of your CDs....?

Guys
How do you know if you need the firmware upgrade? I have a 2001 C200K.
