Had an accident this morning. Was moving along in traffic when the car in front suddenly braked. I hit a hardish brake, managed to stop in time but the chap behind me crashed into me!

Simple case, or not???

Well looked behind and I see the car turning his car around!! I started to turn my car around, and then took a picture of his number plate before giving chase. Luckily 1/2 mile later he pulled over, may be due to the steam coming out from his front end.

I pulled in behind him, he jumped out of the car and starting given me abuse about why i hit a brake!!!! He then told me he's uninsured so he can't give me any details etc and it was his girlfriends car. At that point i decided to call the police when this chap turns around and goes back to his vehicle and pulls out a metal bar!! He started swearing at me and basically told me to get of the phone or he'll kick the sh*t out of me and trash my car!!

Luckily the police were on the phone and recorded all of this. He then backed away and made a few calls.By this point my temper was red hot and when he came back towards me with the bar i grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and slammed him onto his car and threw the bar from his hand. Then his girlfriend appeared from somewhere and seperated us.

I walked away, when suddenly the guy runs back at me with the bar! Luckily i caugth the bar on my arm, i was wearing a thick puffa style jacket. I grabbed the bloke and was about to slam him into a nearby wall when the police finalluy arrived and mounted the kerb nearly knocking both of us over!

Any the police sperated us to opposite sides of the road. I explained the situation to them, showed them the bruise on my arm that was given by the metal pole. To my disbelief the other bloke told the police that the girl was driving! I told them this was incorrect but they said they can't do anything. They simply gave me her details and a producer and told me to be on my way! I then said i wanted soemthing doen about the racial and physical abuse i had received. The policeman quite simply said as i don't have any witnesses the police cannot do anything and i should be lucky that the girl admittef she was driving because at least she's insured!!

I'm annoyed with the fact that if i didn't have the enough strength to overcome him then i would have been seriously injured. I am more annoyed at the fact the police did nothing about this. I am seriously considering taking matters further.

PS i was driving a Vauxhall Corsa, a courtesy car for my C Class which is currently being repaired when a van crashed into me last week. I'm having a great month :(

Whoa! At least you're ok though and that's the main thing!

Sadly another uninsured driver gets away with it.

sorry to hear about your recent troubles :( hope the cclass comes back lookin proper tidy and i also hope that the T*$T who hit you has some real nasty karma come around and bite his ass ;) 'Ave a nana :bannana:

damb KLP, string of bad luck, you have my sympathy mate, I hate it when scumbags try and use their fists (or bars in this case ) to get away with things!! As for witnesses, you have the telephone call recording for one thing!

Woah! What a story, unfortunately I don't see anything coming of you kicking up a fuss, it's your word against his and if he says his girlfriend was driving it's down to you to prove otherwise.

Sorry to hear about it, it's a pretty crappy situation to be in

As the police have a recording of your call, then they have evidence of the blokes behaviour. You have a case.

All too often the police try to convince you that there is no chance of anything happening just because it makes their paperwork a whole lot easier. The police are not the Crown Prosecution Service. If I were you, I'd be down the station insisting that the driver (whoever it was) was prosecuted for failing to stop at the scene of an accident, threatening behaviour, grievous bodily harm, racial abuse etc. You have the right as a citizen to insist they prosecute. They cannot deny you that right.

Unfortunately the behaviour of the police like this is occuring all too often and is one of the reasons why the public has no faith in the justice system.

I hope it all gets resolved for you. One good thing though is at least it wasnt your own car that he ploughed into so even if he does have the registration, he cant trace it to you very easily. Now you have his reg number though....... ;)

Must have been a hell of as shock at the time, but with hindsight at least it was the courtesy car that was hit!

SO frustrating, but what the Police say is right about prosecuting the driver. It's just so much easier for them to sit and collect money from speed cameras than to do any real detective/prosecution work these days.

The only prob is he has my home address, which was given to him by the police as you have to swap details! As my home address was on my license, its the one that got given

I'm just annoyed at the fact he crashes into me, threatens me, tries to assault me and then manages to wiggle his way out!!

All I can do is sit here  .

I really can't believe I have just read that KLP.

Sorry to here about it. But I would insist on prosecution.

I really wonder yet again what this country is coming too.

Amazing - but glad you are OK at the end of it all.

It really astounds me that the police aren't going to do anything and that they made the comment that with the GF admitting driving at least you can claim on her insurance! Whatever happened to upholding the law???

Sorry to hear about this - at least you're OK though and will hopefully get the car paid for.

I've had the driver switch thing done to me ... given one name and address at the scene, and then later on someone completely different was driving according to the paperwork! I was on my own in the car, so had no witness to dispute it.

I'm glad that ur ok - the whole story disgusts me...

PS. Tell the woman's insurance company that "She was not driving" and that will caise problems down her end and perhaps land THEM both in it but it will delay ur payout.... ;)

Is there muh damage to the Corsa?

I think you should pursue a complaint of racially aggravated assault -yes its your word against his but whats the point in introducing a law if you are unable to go to the police about it? i mean how many people do you know who will stand in a crowd of people and start calling you every name under the sun? no its done when your one on one or walking past a group.

Cant believe the police told you that and feel for you mate, so out of order.

Now, if you had hit him back and got one over him and the police found him on the floor, i daresay that you woudl have been charged with gbh or something again protecting the criminal.

Joke.

I agree with Thmsshuan. Nail him.
did you notice if the Tax Disc was legal ? Did the Police notice ?

KLP - you have my sympathies, along with no doubt all else who read your story. The whole thing is sick-making.
It is not for me to tell you to take matters further - you are obviously worried for your personal safety.
Perhaps you should consider taking this up with your MP, or the Police Complaints Commission, or writing to the Chief Constable of the constabulary dealing with it.

Disregarding the actions of the person who committed several crimes for a moment, the actions of the police in attendance were outrageous and are surely bordering on negligent/illegal.
The police do have a witness - you. And they have evidence - the recorded phone call and your physical injuries. They cannot just ignore what happened for the sake of an easy life.
They should also be reviewing any local cctv footage to see if there is any of the bloke driving the car contrary to what he said. They could have checked the position of the drivers seat and finger-printed the steering wheel for evidence that he was driving.
Isn't this what the f***ing police are supposed to do for f***s sake???????
Its a wonder that anybody is arrested for anything these days.......(other than doing 85 on empty motorways in the middle of the night).

This guy drives around without insurance and then attacks people with an iron bar after driving into them. By the sound of it he then racially abused you. He needs locking up somwhere very unpleasant for a long time.

PS also sorry to hear that you were driving a vauxhall corsa - how awful ;)

sorry to hear all this but I really think you should make sure the Police take some action if only against the two who attended the incident.

Of course they have evidence make sure they folow it up - as a thought does the photo of the number plate give any clue as to who was driving?

He may have your address but by the same token you have his - I suspect that may be worrying him as well.

Glad you are OK for the most part and good luck sorting it out

Andy

Awful story - really nasty.

As a thought - have you had the photo developed ? It might show who was driving by a process of elimination (Say his girlfriend was significantly shorter or something ?)

Finally surely given the amount of road cameras I'm willing to bet they've got a tape of the incident - especially if it happened on a main road.

Surely the iron bar didn't come out of nowhere, that showed intent on his part, plus the telephone recording of the verbal assault...a good starting point for a case in my view, you don't need me to tell you this stuff...like you though I would be worried he had your address.

Friday night - I was waiting to turn right at some lights (already in the junction) they had just turned red, I stopped my turn I had just started because I saw this E-class was about to run the lights coming the other way - in front of two police on foot. So the E-class drives away and I call out to the policemen, who say "We know he ran the red light but we are on foot". Ermm, yes but you have radios and the reg. number and he has committed an offence...useless.
