Just rang up to declare my modification to exhaust system, secondary cats are removed and silencer and hastings direct said they wouldn't insure the car.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Any company's ok with this? its a pretty common mod for these AMG's and lots of others, what are all you AMG drivers using?

Why would you do that in the first place, I mean tell them Once I declared winter tyres and they didn't want to insure
For me its like this
I have a c63 and I drive at all times 70mph on motorway... oh hold on I will make a trip to local Police station....dear officer my car is too fast and I keep breaking the freaking speed limit ha ha ha

Direct Line refused to insure car with exhaust modifications. Lucky I inquired before making the mods, as required in their T&Cs

Always check before making mods, there are companies sympathetic to these types of modifications. Equally there are those that point-blank refuse.

Not to inform puts one in breach of the terms and conditions from any insurance company. Not worth the risk IMO

with nothing helpful to add you still felt the need to post?:dk:

Swinton also do modification cover under the specialist banner, Adrian flux among numerous others gl with the search.

Tony.

Thanks ill try Adrian Flux.

I was paying 440 with hastings which I thought was a bit of a bargain at the time. Now its 650, because the cars a bit louder? WTF. Waiting for a call back off Sky, and chris Knott wont insure me cus it RWD.

Adrian Flux are one of the better ones, and are sympathetic towards modified cars.

Mines insured with Privilege and they have no problems with mine being modified, and all my mods are declared and actually printed on the documents. As whitenemesis states above, they could very easily use any modification as an excuse not to pay out on a claim, so make sure you mention everything, irrespective of whether you think it relevant or not. :)

Most of the comparison websites (comparethemarket etc.) allow you to enter mods. - you will see on the list of insurers that comes up which ones won't quote.

I've used Elephant and Admiral (both the same company) for my SL (sports cats and centre muffler delete).

This is a ****ing joke. Im being told over 900 quit by Adrian Flux. I was paying 440.

Daimler Insurance is generous with modifications. They added a 90hp+ chip/remap to my policy for free.

They aren't the cheapest, but offer built-in GAP and other benefits plus won't mess you around on a claim.

With your rate of modding, you should have enough "superseded documents" to paper your house by now...

:D :D :D

Seriously, undeclared mod's are one of the easiest get outs for an insurer to void a claim, so you effectively have no insurance unless they are.

Perhaps you should have made enquiries before making the mod's? Your bargaining position is now roughly zero.

Whatever mate, insurance is a load of crap, always has been, always will be. Rip of England.

Until you claim against a 3rd party and rely on their policy to put you back on the road...

Work with it or it will work against you, there's no (legal) way round it, so play canny and it will reward.

England's finished because you failed to check the consequences of your meddling?

Aviva have a drop down of mods. Exhaust mods are zero on cost.

I spoke to Direct Line when I was insured with them - didn't have long left on the policy.

They said they would allow the mods under their policy but I could not renew it with them so I went elsewhere.

I've heard anecdotal stories of people with mods getting insurance with them so I've no idea as to the actual situation.

Direct Line covered all my cosmetic, wheel and ICE upgrades without issue or premium increase. They allowed my coil-overs (with a 25% premium increase) but point blank refused any exhaust modifications or braided flexible brake hoses!

I then changed my 270CDI for my CLS55 and they halved my annual premium.... :dk:

In my experience Direct Line make it up as they go along when it comes to modifications.

My attitude was that if they couldn't give consistent, coherent, answers when I was asking questions then they probably couldn't be trusted to deal with a claim unless the car was absolutely standard and with no options. I took my business elsewhere and am unlikely to return.
