My wife made this - she also made some paper ghosts with 50p inside each one and opened a large tin of Quality Street to offer.

The lit candle obviously draws the trick or treaters and accordingly the doorbell has been ringing.

She does it because it's "for the children".

The last two children were accompanied by parents who shouted "Happy Halloween" :dk: as they left.

    Is she right?

    @Howard

    That's her view.

Others feel it's a commercialised and made up waste of time.

Oh it is , for sure !

But you don't have to go mad , we've spent less than a tenner so far and Jess has had a whale of a time !

    £2 for two pumpkins
£2.50 for a little dress from the toddlers charity shop to wear to nursery for their halloween party
    £3 on sweets
Couple of quid on hanging decs etc.

    Job done

That Jack o'lantern looks just like Mr Toad.

If they only solicit from houses that invite them, fair enough.

Pity though that the meaning and history of it all is of little interest to the participants and the American commercial version replaces local tradition. The recent western cultural obsession with zombies will probably become a dominant aspect.

It's a load of American crap to me but my children love it so I have to get in the spirit of the thing...

I 've heard a blond wig , gold shell suit , lots of jewellry and a big cigar works a treat in scaring off trick or treaters

It certainly has become very commercialised, but think that the door to door "trick or treat" and basic carved pumpkins are the least commercial parts.

I find some of the elaborate house decorations quite over the top and quite Americanised. However, the most commercialised part of halloween for me is the parties that have taken over all of the bars and clubs. I was saying to friends the other day how I really can't remember halloween parties for adults being the norm when I was in my twenties (about 10 years ago).

American? I thought Halloween (or All Hallows Eve) was an English thing...

Anyhow, here's me waiting for trick-or-treaters... I snuck behind the cars for a while and walked behind groups going to the door. A few screams out of that :p

It's getting too cold now, so I'm just waiting indoors with haribos and roses...

I'll upload better pictures of costumes tomorrow - when we are all dressing up for the party...

Here's my creation to welcome guests... it's not fully finished yet, but gives an idea. There are two smoke machines hiding behind them as well... Hoping to get some dry ice tomorrow to turn the smoke into fog...

No visits so far (bowl of sweets by the door un-touched)
Had hoped for a visit from 2 children from 2 doors along as they would normally be accompanied by their mother;)

Sadly, the pressures of his fame caused Pingu's drinking to get out of hand...

The little terrors target our house - we have hoards of them knocking the door.

I'm decorating the hall, stairs and landing at the moment, and answered the door bear chested, wearing only a pair of paint splattered shorts and a pair of Crocs. None of them batted an eyelid!

I wonder if my ghost will make an appearance tonight? My niece has seen her but not me.

As long as she frightens off the local children sizing up the metal content of the drainpipes...
