Handbrake squeal

Hi, I notice my A207 handbrake is squealing a bit and not holding the car unless pushed on hard. Due to lack of use no doubt and a bit of corrosion on the drums. Is it ok to drive with them partially on to clean them off. The bmw 3 series I used to have had this instruction in the manual and it worked a treat. Any problem trying it with the cab?

It shouldn't do any harm but I would be also looking to get the cables lubricated and adjusted and possibly pulling off the disc to check the condition of the shoes and the inner drum surface
