I saw a YouTube video of a range rover going through an automated car wash and the tail gate opened, presumably the hands free sensor was activated by the motion of the car wash. I have a e220d estate with hands free release and want to know if there is a way of making sure this doesn’t happen should I use an automated car wash??

The answer will be in your handbook. There will be a way to disable the function, perhaps a valet mode?

Should only work if key is detected at the rear, but regardless it won't work if the engine is running so just leave it on.

Except one is told to switch the engine off when in an automated car wash?

Easy - don't take your car through an automated car wash.....
Yeah, I came here for helpful replies rather than smartarse quips. Are you here all week??

I am, try the fish :)

But seriously fella, those automated washes are simply not good for your paintwork.
