Got a next base hardwire kit and wish to piggy back on the cig lighter fuse. Any idea of the location of it on the W211 220CDI

Thanks, yes the kit comes with all that. Just locating the correct fuse I'm seeking.

Would anyone know which is the cig lighter fuse?

It should be a 15 amp fuse, Blue, if you remove the Blue fuse and the cigar lighter stops working then you have found it.
Others may give you a more precise answer.

Been told that the cig lighter fuse is in the engine compartment. Could I use any of the fuses shown above that power up with the ignition and how would I earth the connection ?

Sorry don’t know what those fuses are for, have you found the fuse list for all the fuses.
You could use one of the vacant fuse slots in your picture, you need one that has no power when the ignition is off and live when the ignition is on so that whatever you are connecting to the cars electrical system is off when the key is out of the ignition.
