Is there an easy connection available to hard wire a dash cam in on a new SL?
Is it better to ask an ICE company to install or will MB do it?
Will it affect my warranty?
I do not want to have a trailing wire to the cigarette lighter socket, so hard wiring would be the preferred option. I notice that some cameras come with a special fuse adapter that clips in where a fuse goes and the "main" fuse then goes in "over the top"

Any advice appreciated

Hi i have a SLr231 and wired Dash cam using fuse box on drivers side, if you open door wide and look at the side dash, u will notice a cover that will expose fuses, it was very easy to run power cable up pillar trim to roof and push it into the rear view mirror plastic trim, i stick mine just below the mirror housing and works perfect, i used piggyback fuse so no wire cutting was needed.

I just used the power socket in the passenger footwell

I took my lower panel off yesterday to check condition of the cabin filter (only two torx screws) and once it's off you can access the wiring for the 12v socket so could splice into there and tuck the wiring up the passenger A post trim.

thanks for your replies, now to choose what camera. The last one I had, had terrible reflections off the windscreen so will definitely need one with a polarising filter

Probably a Nextbase 522, unless anyone knows otherwise

Yes you could, i just preferred to keep all wiring intact

Excellent, simple fit then, Is there a list of the fuses and what they do?

i just used one of the empty slots all seems to be permanent live, used nextbase kit that comes with voltage protection its supposed to cut power when battery gets, i use the parking mode on the next base and it works really well.

I have a Viofo dual camera with filter.

It is really good with regular firmware updates from the manufacturer, plus there is a dedicated forum where some of the members produce firmware to improve on the manufactures.

About £130 from Amazon. On offer at the moment. https://www.amazon.co.uk/VIOFO-Official-Channel-Wireless-Bluetooth/dp/B07F27F5CW/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1HA8YCWPPS1O6&keywords=viofo+a129+duo&qid=1566809169&s=gateway&smid=A394XV48IUDZC&sprefix=viofo,aps,140&sr=8-3

Do a search on dahscam on here, there has been several threads on this topic from the budget £30 versions all the way through to the range topping £500+ Blackvue versions.

It really is all about personal preference, requirements and budget, all things considered. I have a 2CH (front & rear) Blackvue set up in the ML, has worked flawlessly for the 2/3 years we have had it, so much so have just bought a newer version of it and had it installed in the CLS. Can't fault the quality and performance of the kit. Would happily recommend it.
