Hi all!

Need help fitting a dashcam to a W218.

All in place and cables routed. Can anyone advice where I can obtain 12V Perm, Switched and Ground in / around the passenger / driver footwell or around the OBD / Bonnet release / passenger footwell etc.

Thanks!

Why do you need both switched and permanent live for a dash cam? The drivers side fuse block in the end of the dash will provide permanent live and ground.

no fuse box on the w218 at the end of the dash on drivers or passenger side.

Dashcam has parking recording mode hence the need for permanent and switched.

If you use a nextbase hard wire kit you will not need a switched live as it gives you a permanent live. The battery voltage is monitored and it will shut down if the voltage drops to far. Mine was parked up for three weeks and although a little slow to crank, fired up first time.

Some are adjustable , some are a useless 11.6V.

Ditched for a camera that wakes up with G shock .

You can get perm live from the ODBII socket. One of pins is 12V feed. I used it to connect a USB 3.1A charger to feed the wireless mobile phone cradle/charger on the windscreen. From memory the fuse is only 5A or 7A so you'll need to check that that's enough for your needs.

Cheers.

Not sure how I feel about pulling via the OBD socket.

Dash cam supports all the parking modes but needs 12V both permanent and switched.

Will pull the footwell covers and investigate.

Did this cause can bus faults?

That's what fitted my Nextbase and it also fits my Viofo.

Adapters can be bought cheaply enough if required.

Are you sure? Every one of both those makes I've ever seen are all mini not micro USB.

Anyway, just wanted to make note so the OP can check before purchasing.

Plenty of both on eBay either way.

Actually you are right that is a different USB connector to mine.

But they are available with mini USB end a s well.

Cheers all. None of them works as mine is powered by a barrel connector so just need to wire to live switched / ground. I’ll run the wires from fuse box to a pillar.

Hello
First Post
I have a 2015 E Class convertible
I'd like to find a permanent live feed for a dashcam(it requires both permanent and switched being a nextbase)
I'm loathe to drill any holes and have run the cable to the fuse set on the end of the dashboard, drivers side but can't find a permanent live feed! Any suggestions gratefully received
