Harsh gear change

Hi the hear change from 1-2 sometimes is harsh, almost feels like the gear has just 'banged' in. The car will also pull off in 2nd instead of 1st-this is in s mode

Any ideas? Its a 1999 w140 s320.

First question? Do you know when the ATF was last changed? Have you checked the levels?

Hi, i havent checked the level no. I purchased the car 11 months ago. I have noticed that the red tab on the dipstick is missing, so maybe the previous owner changed it or had it looked at

Well on a 99 car, I would expect it to have been done at least once, hence the red tab missing.

So start with the levels, not sure if these come with an ATF disptick or not. If not plenty of info on here on where to buy or how to make one.

How many miles has it done?

Its done 118,000. Will be taking it to a merc specialist for this job
