Have all motoring manufactures given up on SAFTEY?

my car looks like this, simple heating knobs - large push buttons for seat heating, turning on/ff start/stop, rear windscreen button, moving air to feet/top/side/etc/etc and a couple of others inc hazard lights etc - door mirrors on side of door buttons - could not be simpler

Hi , some members may have noticed that my Mercedes has been written off by my Insurance company after an accident.

I have had two of the type and have been totally reliable and have experienced excellent service from my Mercedes dealer.The type was so good that I was looking for a later model.

I don't want to cause alarm by posting what most probably caused the accident but I have a delima how do I inform members ( if the members want to know ) as to the major issues or do I say nothing.

I feel that I am in a catch 22 position doomed if I do , doomed if I don't.

!957 I had a new VW, It had 4 knobs on dashboard, Engine choke, ash tray head lights and windscreen wipers.
For those who don't know, 'choke' is a fuel enrichment device for cold start.
What more doo you need? No short wave radio, too much noise on dirt roads of East Africa.

If there is a fundamental issue that you believe may effect others on here, isn't it only morally right that you make it known.??

I wouldn't worry about being doomed Bb - it's only a car forum. You may have info which will help others.

If anything cars have gotten safer, I agree that fiddling with touchscreens can be distracting but most of the motions can be done from the steering wheel but again some would find that distracting but virtually all the things I need to do in my car can be done by speech so no need at all to look at anything.

Didn't I read your mate Dave have an issue like that? You could tell everyone about the issues Dave had, and his past experience might be useful for some on here?

The latest S calss - screen stuck in the midle and a tablet stuck above the steering and not a button/knob in site

Many older people are like me, ie need glasses for driving but not reading and boy is it difficult to focus even on my cars push buttons never mind the newer car buttons if they have them and are very small


Trust me, within a year or two almost every car maker will return to using buttons and knobs of size where they are easy to see/adjust without having to take eyes off the road for more than a split second.

It is politics and nothing less by way of fact (righty so) cant use hand held phone just to hear a call but you are expected to f about a touch screen at 70mph in the dark, unlit road and its p-ing down with rain. Even a donkey can see that cars that are almost 100% touch screen are dangerous and more dangerous than using a handheld phone

My car can do almost anyhting via speech i think as can most cars these days - mines a merc, family has Fords, bentleys, jeeps and one has an Audi - all realtively new cars ie a few years old and all lol about trying to get the car to do stuff via speech - it rarely understands the command.

MBUX is pretty good mine will understand me for most commands such as heating, volume, navigation, phone calls, changing tracks, heated seats etc. Mind you some of that goes out the window if connected to Apple Play when Siri seems to take over phone calls and navigation to contacts, maybe the newer generation is even better.
