Have I got dpf fitted

Any way of finding out ,it's a 2008 c220 cdi sport, reg OV58 SOJ ,I think it's 177 brake or thereabouts runs fine but I'm gona get it remapped and egr delete and poss dpf delete at same time but if I don't have one it saves me the bother ,I gave the car a good clean recently and tailpipe is as sooty as hell ,does this mean I haven't got one fitted

Regarding the soot - yes this most likely means you don't have a DPF.

You can check your vin on a vin decoder web site - if you have one it'll usually list it as "diesel particulate filter".

I have a 2009 C220 sport and I don't have a DPF.

No, you don't, 646 engine in C220s of that time, 167bhp, 170ps. Same as mine.

MKW performance told me they could do a mobile remap for 250 quid - it's a 4 or 5 hours job as ecu has to come out. I'm going to do in the new year.

Just checked with the MB and Gov MOT check systems too, same result, no car found.

Yeah I know it has to come out,I went to GAD north ages ago and he had to remove it , only to find hedidnt have the correct lead/connector or something and he put it back untouched,bit of a wasted journey .
Iv spoke to John at bft and he said same ( remove ) but the diff is he said he's done loads of my type so will b done no prob,so it's him I'll b going to ,,however ,, my heads been turned by the Audi a5 3.0 tdi ,,so dilemma now is remap or change car

BFT=big fish tuning near Middlesbrough ,has the benefit of a rr before and after but a bit dearer than mkw, however I think it's a better bet than somebody turning up in a van , opening ur ecu and playing with it ,refitting it charging u 250 ar least and telling what it's pushing out ,how can they tell if no rr?

That should have a Delphi ecu on c220cdi and as far as I know can be done via obd 2 with the right tool.Most tuners use Kess v2 which has its limits.

It is A delphi unit but app it can't b done via obv they physically have to remove the unit , but one thing iv wondered is I had a remap a while ago in another car (306 - it was years ago) and the guy had a laptop plugged in to obv port and was live mapping it as I was driving , how can tuners offer a bespoke/custom map if ecu is removed so cars is not driving (even on a rolling road) would they not just uploading a generic map refitting the ecu and test it?

Some ECUs have to be removed because the components that need reading and programming cannot be reached via the OBD port.

All the parameters are visable and a good tuner knows what to do with them. BFT have a good rep so I wouldn't worry

It'll be a generic map, perhaps slightly tweaked for the specific car, but the figure quoted will be an average figure. As I have no other mods I'm happy with a generic map.

I've had generic maps before now on a Bora and a Focus and while I had no way of verifying actual figures the increase could be felt straightaway.

For interest what price is BFT quoting, I'd be interested in an rr session?
