My R350 is going in for an A service (44,000 miles) and have been told it's going to cost £699 which is way more than normal. Nothing out of the ordinary just a service. Seems pretty steep to me.

I don't know any good non-franchise which I could use instead but going to ask around to see what it would cost. But without the MB stamp for the service, would that a short-term gain?

 well , you can give JOHN R weir, glen henderson and MB ayr a call and work out of the price is going up. Where did you call for that price?

That seems very expensive.... Should only be about 250ish for an A service. plus extras maybe?

Is that including spark plugs (assuming it is petrol!), pollen filter and brake fluid?

The A service is not a constant from what I remember, MB add certain things to be changed depending on age and / or mileage

Ive got my car going in next week for an A servive at approx 36000 miles and have been quoted £260. Thats at John R Weir in Aberdeen. Not the best people and hate going there, but its my last service before my warranty runs out and got a few issues for them. Also want a print out of my service history just incase the car never sees a dealer again!!

Yup, all that. Strange, he said he'd call me back with a breakdown of the cost which they've never done before. MB Giffnock by the way. Was only expecting £300-400. I'll phone other dealers and see what they say.

    Thanks people.

Ill bet its plugs , your car is 4 years old and they need doing every 50 or 60k or 4 years.

The plugs alone are about £400 :(

I think £400 is probably a little high just for plugs! MB charge around £10 a plug plus labour so if it takes 12 (some V6 and V8 engines are twin spark) I would say around £220- 280 at MB prices.

Negotiate, it is surprising what you can get and there are reduced rates for cars of a certain age.

I get a 50% discount on labour and 20% on parts and was quoted £250 for the plugs. Im not that far off with my guesstimate tbh.

Just make sure they're quoting for the same scope of work. You should be able to see what's required if you put the car's details in here: Mercedes-Benz ESS

Some dealers (all the Inchcape owned ones, for example) have discounted sevicing prices on their website but don't always offer them unless asked.

I was quoted £250 by a dealer and £160 from a local MB specialist for my C320. No idea what discount the dealer may have applied though.:dk:

Why don't you give Mercedes Car Specialists a phone to see how much they are prepared to do job for, never used them myself but they get a good reputation and the guy how runs it used to be the service manager at MB Glasgow. If you still prefer to go to dealership then phone them and say you would rather have your car done at their place however you have been quoted a much lesser price at indy, they probably won't match it but they will certainly be close, I speak from personal experience. As they say ," nothing ventured, nothing gained". All the best.

Could they have quoted for ATF change aswell? Its about the right mileage for that. Add in plugs, brake fluid and the price might not be that dreadful. I think you really need the breakdown of what is included.

Great stuff Alan, thanks for that. :thumb: Gave Dave (ex-service mgr for Glasgow) a phone and he's going to do it for £145+vat. He explained why MB's quote was £699 and that he'll only service where due. I'll lose Mobilo as others have stated but can get breakdown cover and still save.
I'll no doubt come across this again when the SL goes in but will know what to do!
