When the dinosaurs were roaming, did Man commit suicide?. No we lived around it.

to be fair, I think we were still evolving at the time, and looked mroe like a vole than brad pitt, but nevertheless, we've survived an iceage before, global warming we'll survive too, worst case is that it'll facilitate a solution to the overpopulation problem we have[1]

[1] see, the power of positive thinking... :)

I find it worrying that with such a wonderful grasp of history you are even allowed to vote......

The last dinosaurs died out approximately 60 million years before the first man.

Meh, from my point of view if the oil runs out, its a good thing for the environment, at least we stop that source of pollution!

The problem isn't that humanily wont adapt, the problem is that humanity is violent in nature, and that adaptation phase wont be smooth. The coutries (country?) that is stockpiling now will have sufficient fuel to run their craft... the others wont. As such, the worst off countries will want a slice of the pie while they "convert" to other forms of fuel...

WW3 anyone?

Rubbish!
I've seen loads'a Hollywood Blockbusters featuring dinosaurs. If what you claim is true then how comes I've seen these films? Go on answer that. If you can :p :p

do you need to be so personal and sarcastic?

Absolute rubbish .That is what your experts have told you. My
own knowledge tells me Man was the first on earth so as we were not both here 60million years ago and no device can accurately tell us what happened then i suggest you can only make your own speculations. Do not try to force it on others.
And if people like you vote, no wonder the country is in such a state.

My take is make the oil as cheap as chips. Everyone uses it ,it finshes and then we can not pollute the earth anymore.
This will not happen because the oil is not even close to finishing.

If you think this world has been in existence for 60million years you are in LaLa land

When I was 12 (I'm 35 now), we were taught that we had about 25 years of oil left. That gives us 2 years.

do you need to be so personal and sarcastic?

In cases like this, yes :)

I'm more than happy to listen to your theory of evolution even though you are still a bit out on your timeline.

According to most historians, either of us being around 60 million years ago wouldn't have done much good, the dinosaurs had been gone for about 5 million years and man was 55 million years down the line.

Of course, if you and your experts can come up with an alternative version of history (along with reasonably accurate alternatives to carbon dating and geology) in the next couple of hours I'm sure you will have a captive audience, at the very least you could have a career in Hollywood :)

if you have any education you will realise that carbon dating does not go back 60million years ,but since i am bigger than you and you have proved it easily with your childish digs hiding behing your keyboard, i will definitely not stoop to your level as it is obvious you have a clear case of lack of respect of other opinions, stuck up attitude and generally a rebellious nature.
Historians will definitely not want you to be part of them.

These are the times I crave for those nice little red squares - common admins - we've been good ;) ...

Carbon dating? Fossile evidence? Natural Selection and Mutations? DNA similarities? Or do you not believe in the existence of DNA because you can't see it?

I can vote, but that has absolutely nothing to do with what my beliefs are. I respect people's beliefs. If you don't believe in evolution, if you believe in creationism or some other form of "spontaneous existence" fine. But PLEASE do not try to pass this off as truth. That is the main difference between science and religion. Science is a religion of sorts, but its the only "religion" (that I know of) that challenges its "disciples" to challenge the foundations of the religion.

How would you feel if the pope told you to start questioning the truth of the Bible? Or the leader of the Islamic faith to question to Koran? Or any religious leader were to say "maybe we're wrong, YOU have a look at it and try to prove me wrong?"

Essentially, this is the same conversation that goes between Open Source coders and companies like Microsoft. Open Source is so much more secure because EVERYONE and ANYONE can say "hang on there, that line looks wrong". Last time someone said this in Europe towards the major faith at the time he was killed if I'm not mistaken...

But leaving Gallileo, religion and voting aside, the line:
If you think this world has been in existence for 60million years you are in LaLa land
is the one that enrages me most. Its not people who act badly or wrongly that end up destroying the planet, humanity and everything else. Its people who refuse to take the earwax out, to remove their hoodies from their eyes and who simply refuse to accept reality and do nothing about problems.

Sure, you can complain about too few policemen... what have YOU done about it? Sure, you can complain about taxes being too high - have YOU done something about it other than whine? Democracy isn't "oh, the others will do something about it" - its "I have a choice. My opinion counts. I will do something about it if no-one else will"

Simply put, I love Fridays. They are great days, they are days when I can go home and do what I want for 2 and a half days. You have ruined my Friday.

You are the one who has ruined your friday. If you do not like what other people write on this forum, then go to bed.
I have read all kinds on this forum but i have never been personal to anyone so since you and your mate that you regularly give thanks to think you can come in here and act like the see all and know all,and be personal with me then you are just dreaming. I have done more than you can imagine concerning my taxes and the state of affairs in my community where i come from and i do not sit by idling my thumbs like you.
I did not write religion anywhere but you have taken it upon yourself to reach that conclusion. Soon you will be telling me i came from a monkey or a fish
Your Friday ruined?
Like i care

Brilliant thread! :D Okay, I'll bite...

Right, so if man was on earth first that suggests that mankind is at least four billion years old.

Even if the four billion figure is open to conjecture, how does that fit with evolution and our primate ancestors?

Anyway, how come we weren't all eaten by dinosaurs?

Understanding mysteries like this will help understand modern conundrums, like why toast always falls on carpet butter side down, and why otherwise normal enough people think a Lexus is an acceptable form of transport.

yep, I was fully aware of the limits of carbon dating which was why I also added geology into the list of things for you to spend your Friday afternoon rubbishing.

When you've finished throwing insults around you'll probably notice that my first and subsequent comments were light hearted and once that realisation slowly dawns on you I'm sure we'll all be happy to help you put your toys back in your pram.

One theme seems to run throughout the subject of oil and that is the over assessment of oil reserves, I bet there is loads of oil on mars not so much in the south atlantic, bit quiet on that front.
