I came back into the UK on Monday night and was really happy to be home. However, on Tuesday I learned that a friend of mine whom I used to work with had passed away from Covid 19. He was in his late 50s and was fit and well. 2.5 weeks later he died and I will never see him again.

Seeing all of the stats of deaths you think OMG that's a lot. When you lose someone you knew to it, it seems a lot more real. He was one of the 787(?) of Monday's deaths.

Has anyone here lost a friend/family member to Covid?

Yes, my old boss passed away earlier this week, apparently as a result of contracting Covid-19. He was getting on a bit which probably didn't help. Can't even go and pay my respects... :(

Thankfully no, but my heart goes out to anyone that has, especially when they pass away alone without any loved ones around them. Then there’s the funeral restrictions to take into account.

I lost my father in law last Friday, tested positive for covid 19, with other health issues. It's been heartbreaking for my wife, being unable to visit, care or say goodbye. The upcoming funeral presents equally unbearable issues.

He was such a lovely, sweet man, still playing his harmonica until a few weeks ago, and he did well for 86. RIP Eric.

Sadly, yes. Lost my best friend on 25th March. Trying to comfort his wife and children by phone and video chat has been very difficult. It really rattles me when I see people still actively socialising like nothing is happening or it won't happen to them.

Very sad ....

Not that I know of. And that in a way is a problem. I‘ve been messaging friends and family to check up on them but had no replies from a couple. Is it just that they’re slow to respond, as many of us are, or is it that something has happened to them? I try not to worry but it’s so difficult.

Condolences to all those who have lost people.

Not yet. Not from covid but my Aunt has lung cancer (never a smoker) and her emergency operation has been cancelled indefinitely so it's curtains for her :(. So she might just as well had it, it's killed her off all the same

My childhood friend has lost both his parents this last fortnight. I do not know if theh tested positive to covid-19, they were both fairly frail.
It was most likely down to them not being able to get the full care they needed. It was difficult for him as he couldn't get to see them before.
An old school friend died with covid-19 about two weeks ago also.

No not yet, thankfully.

I know quite a few people here in London of various ages from mid-20's to mid 50's who reckon they've had it. It's been pretty severe for some of them including the youngest fittest guy in my office who resorted to a hospital visit at one point due to lung incapacity. They did some tests on his vital functions and sent him home again as he wasn't bad enough to warrant a bed. He's OK now but that was a scary few days

Next door neighbour. Also Mrs Saff has lost 2 colleagues, NHS nurses. So very sad.

Don’t know anyone personally that’s had it or died from it.

From what I’ve seen on the news it’s hit big cities harder than provincial towns and the sticks.

So...wife was informed this morning she is positive.
Inevitable really since there is only one other member of staff on her ward who so far has not tested positive. Most isolate at home for 7 days and then go back if they feel better.
I and my daughter have to isolate for 14 days...and they will not swab us unless we display symptoms.

I wish her a speedy recovery and to you and daughter not to catch it.

Fingers crossed for you and your family, hopefully no serious symptoms and a speedy, complete recovery.
All the best Ciaran

Sorry to hear that but as you say inevitable. Your wife and her colleagues are superstars, but I’m sure that they’re too modest to accept such praise.

Hoping your wife has no more than a mild infection, has a speedy recovery and that you and your daughter remain uninfected. All the best Ciaran, thinking of you.
