Have You Seen Any Interesting Cars On The Road Lately?

The irritating thing about Ferraris, apart from their owners, is just how few of them get driven any distance.

Gives them that "Garage Queen" or "Ticked the Box" aura. Whereas Mercedes and 911's regularly rack up crazy mileages.

Although I never did understand why 911's average one owner a year, whereas it's routine for Mercedes to average 3-4 years, and often single owners for quite a long time.

What has stopped you?

Too much maintenance.

For example the cam belts must be changed irrespective of mileage and it’s too often and it’s an engine out job.
People buy them to say they’ve got one and then flog them before the big annual bill comes in.

Ferrari engines are capable of big mileage but it’ll cost.

About 10 years back, my brother-in-law’s neighbour had a Ferrari 360 parked unmoved on the drive for some years. I was perplexed about why they had a (then) fairly new Ferrari parked out of use. I later found out the answer - which was that it needed work that he couldn’t afford...

A bloke down the road from me(he with the d type and e type) changes his own belts on his 360.
Said the job was 'fairly' easy, but you need the special tool to hold the cams( and other bits) in place while you do it....he didn't bother as the tools was a fortune....and just made sure nothing moved!!

Some people have balls 🤣

Adding to the story, I had a neighbour who had a 328 and who spent all his time either cleaning this weekend car, or going to the gym "to do weights."

I tried to have a conversation with him a few times about "where he drove it" and the answer was "nowhere, really."

I could tell stories about the members of the Ferrari Owners Club but I would need alcohol first.

Oddly enough, my Fezza-owning mate has a 911 which used to live in his garage but these days rarely drives it as it's a 964RS and the combination of escalating value and parts scarcity has meant the 308 is actually more sensible option. The 911's gone in the barn :-(

The Porsche is worth at least double the Ferrari.

The 308/328 series are lovely and you can pick up very good examples for under £70,000 quite easily. Buy one and pretend to be Thomas Magnum.

I honestly don’t know what to make of this...

Crazy good pickup there. I'd like to see under the hood. Hope it's got go to go with the show. Won't see that down at Jewsons.

But oh those tyres!
A friend had one of these for a while, it looked fab but wasn’t the most comfortable to travel in. Also, the original position of the fuel tank was right under the driver’s seat, so most owners move it elsewhere for safety. But the isn’t much space ‘elsewhere’ so the new tank was only 9-gal. Cue fuel stops every 50 miles!

It doesn't get any better with the Audi Q8....those crazy Germans🙃

What on earth is that thing on the bonnet?! Whatever it is, I can't think who would pay £1,905 for it.

I like the line on their website "Speak to our team for advice on how you can personalize your car to meet your particular taste." Or lack of...

I see that Lumma HQ is in South West Germany, which I tend to think of as a very conservative place; most people debadge their cars out of a kind of reverse snobbery. Quite a contrast.

Saw an original late 1960's Ford Mustang last week.
Actually, I heard it first.
