Have You Seen Any Interesting Cars On The Road Lately?

Would appreciate any comments on who made this visitor from Cologne. Absolutely brand spanking new Bentley, based on what I think is the end of line 1946 design. Shows signs of being used for modern day rallying, but bears no signs of use or age - at all.

As far as I can see, it's not one of the "official" Bentley manufactured "Blowers' (cost roughly £1.5 million), nor one of the Petersen creations.

What say you?

That's Lagonda's a very rare thing indeed. This one lives in Surrey.

Rare to see a Lagonda in the wild because most are in Rodger Dudding's collection of twenty three Lagonda's which are all parked in his "Studio 434 " just north of London.

There used to be two in my street...:

Both gone now.

Some of Rodger's 400 cars that are tucked away. (All paid for by the numbered ticket dispenser at the meat counter of your local supermarket)

Mind if I pinch those to ask on the RR Bentley forum?

Please do. I'd love to know who made it, and how.

Location was the RAC last Thursday, 18th. I wonder if it was visiting the UK for a Summer event: a rally, a BDC event, the Salon "Privet" at Blenheim, or the Concours d'Elegance at Hampton Court ?

Not too much info yet apart from:-
A very nice looking special built using a rotten Mk6 bentley that in original guise would be worth £25-£40k max, in current form £100k+

Less exciting than recent posts, but I was surprised to see one of these still on the road (though the MOT history is a bit of a laugh, it has failed in 5 of the 6 years listed in the DVLA record).

My folks had a top spec one of those once. I actually quite liked it at the time, seemed quite plush inside (compared to my Alfa at the time anyway). There's a couple near me that have had the "Stance" treatment. I guess they're popular for that, being quite bland but RWD.

Someone in our village had one of these until quite recently. Following Volvo's takeover of Daf, didn't they use the latter's Variomatic' automatic transmissions?

Yes! The famous 'rubber band' CVT gearbox. Never been in one - though I knew lots of Volvo 340 owners, all had the manual gearbox. Unusually the gearbox is under the rear seat rather than attached to the engine, to even out the weight distribution.

I think... the 340 was a DAF (by design) that became a Volvo during the takeover. The mechanical layout (deDion rear axle, rear located transmission with front mounted (Renault for the 340) engines) was very similar to earlier DAFs.
Later versions got manual transmissions and the top of the range model the 2.0 litre Volvo engine - with a spiteful gearchange. The small engined ones handled really well.
