Well guys, cars in the workshop now, having the High Flow CATS that CKLASS supplied (although ive been told they are better than my current but still not the best availible!) fitted, as well as having the front half of the exhaust custom made (stainless) for better flow and proper fitment of these CATS.

Im afraid I havent got access to a digi cam at the mo so no pics yet!

I`ll let you know what its like when I get it back!

Your car will never be "finished"!! Amazing.

I'll bet it sounds good . . I hear that H&S are happy to make it sound however you like, with subtle tweaking !

I just got a custom stainless catback system fitted to my pug306 at 'topgear' in Bridport, Daarset. It is based on powerflow boxes, welded together for a perfect fit. Nice job too.

Nice addition, I could choose from 30-40 tailpieces. They also do full catalyzer performance systems.

Twas £300 all in. They offered, Loud & f.loud. I asked them to make it about the same loud, I just wanted a free'er gas flow in the hope for a bit more go. Cant tell tho, it is only a 1.6! It makes a nice sound for a 4pot.

I have a K&N to add with some lowering springs. This is my fix while I wait for the H&R springs for the AMG

Thanks guys,

got the car back yesterday, guys are great at what they do there! madeall the pipework and made the CATS fit to it using slightly bigger bore size to match the rear box, the car actually feels like its breathing again! drives supurb!

just like the place altreed was talking abt, these guys can make any exhaust to any spec, they specialise in old antique looking cars and are the #1 supplier for suburu`s!

worth considering if you need an exhaust, all in all inc the CATS (from CKlass in the US) and a custom front end, it cost me £550, this was cheap considering MB wanted £2500 + VAT for the middle piece with standard CATS!

Alps,

did you replace the rear box? manifold? or just pre cat, cat and post cat to back box?

Cheers
Dave

Dave,

CATS and center box are 1 piece on the C36, my CATS had gone and needed replacing, but not without replacing it with the center box too.

I havent replaced the manifold or back box ( I like the AMG tips) they replaced front section, CATS and connected this to the existing middle box, I didnt want to increase the sound levels of the exhaust as it sounds nice as it is, as for performance, they said the exhaust that AMG make is Very good, and not worth replacing unless absolutely necessery.

front pipework made by these guys is alot more free flowing thand has smoother lines than the original AMG one.

I`ll try and get some pics when i get my MOT done on saturday!

Alps,

Cheers, I'll look forward to the pics.

I have detected a noise when I just press the accelerator, like 'pinking'. I read somewhere that is a noise that knackered cats make as well. Is that why you changed the cat?

I like the price! The new CAT on my 190e years ago was over a grand, fortunately the insurance covered it (grounded out on a bad road).

I am intrigued with the new pipework at the front. I haven't seen under mine yet, I will try to see which bit you are referring to. Did they polish it for you a well?

Interesting, got delivery of my Remus exhaust today, it looks very well made and it is the complete system from the downpipes back. It even includes a CAT bypass tube, evidently you don't actually need a CAT on a diesel. I can't wait to see what sort of noise a sports exhaust will make on a diesel or if the claimed 7-10 bhp will be noticable, if it is I shall be upgrating the intercooler next and doing away with the chip.

MBenz has a "sports" backbox on his C250 and the noise is interesting! Louder than normal, but kind of odd.

That's because it's a 5 cylinder engine! :)

But isn't that a non turbo 250? I understand that the turbo acts as a type of silencer, and you can almost get away without any silencer at all.

Yes and yes that is true.

Jimmy,
I like Remus exhausts, they are finished off really well and sound great although they need a little wearing in before you will hear the true sound of it!

had one on my E36 bmw twin 3 1\2" ends, only the back box tho.

That'll be it then!!

Just fitted it and been for a spin, it actually sounds a bit quieter at cruising speeds  , just sounds a bit more throaty under hard accelleration.

Too dark to take photo's but the twin shiny tailpipes just poking out below the rear apron look cool. :bannana:

The only car I have ever fitted a sports back box to was my mini.

I had a twin central exit Peco Big Bore!!!

As it sutted up over the weeks, it sounded better and better.

Is this true?

I know they don't employ any type of oxygen sensor etc but will there not be any trouble with emissions and MOT etc?

If this is the case I wonder if I can bypass the 2 cats on my E320 CDI? One is a cylinder mounted immediately behind the turbo and the other is underneath in a conventional position.
