Hi everyone,

Few months ago I have noticed that cars coming from the oposite direction were constantly flashing lights at me and I couldn't figure out why.
As I was starting the car on the drive one morning I have noticed that the head lights (as they set up after you start the engine) are going down and then come back up but way more than they used to.
I tried different things with settings, like change the drive side from left to right and back again, turn off the intelligent head lights... None of this seem to be helping or making any difference.

Now I don't know if this is coincidence But it started happening when I had the rear suspension sensor issue (now replaced with both cushions). I started noticing it at that point, but could it be anything to do with it?

I want to avoid Mercedes and a hefty bill.I have already tried a Mercedes specialist and he couldn't figure it out.

Any ideas please?:dk: (CLS Shooting Break 2012).

Quite possibly, either the zero point on the module wasn't zero'd or the level sensor itself has been knocked, maybe gone over-centre. The later is easily checked the former will require STAR to recalibrate the headlamp level system.

The self levelling arms to the sensors can rust and break . One in the front right wheel well by the spring ,the other above the diff at the rear .

Hi,
Thanks very much for your support.
If it was the sensor, wouldn't it have an impact on the car levelling as well? The back of the car is dead straight, only the headlights are affected.

I’m not sure on your CLS buddy , on my E class the two level sensors are for headlights only . The car is just on springs , nothing fancy

On the CLS the rear suspension is pneumatic and the sensors are responsible for self-levelling of the back end, not sure if they have anything to do with the lights, but I think they might, since the problem appeared more or less at the same time I had the pneumatic cushions replaced.

Is the STAR a Mercedes software only though?
Can this be checked with a different software/computer/diagnostic tool?

Yes, STAR is the Mercedes diagnostic system. Not sure if third-party systems can calibrate these modules.
