Headlamp knob

Hello i always leave my lights on auto but I was intrigued by two recent events ;
Dealership always sets it to off position when I pick up my car
Forgetting it on off position the car still turns the lights on as needed.
That can't be said for my old s500.
Can anyone explain? [emoji16]

They just don’t want the vehicle lights to come on while it is in the service bay. Not sure I understand your second point.

I've encountered many headlight knobs, I just hate being dazzled.

Lights went on automatically at night even though the setting was off.
