Headlamp selector switch illumination

Hi
2006 C55 AMG. The headlamp selector switch (the part you turn) lights up when the headlamps are on but the 'icons' surrounding the switch (fixed part) do not. Pretty much every car I have ever driven has these lit up so I am guessing a blown lamp.

Any ideas how to get the light switch out to check. My first instinct is to prise it off but you guys might know of a hidden screw or some such German devilry !

The switch bezel does not illuminate, only the fog lamp indicator comes on.

To remove the switch the complete panel comes out of the dash, access via the end panel.

Thanks, but how odd that on a car of this spec you can't see what such an important switch does, OK once you get used to it I suppose but my 16 year old Vauxhall banger and my 1996 Iveco van both have bezels that illuminate.

A strange omission.
