Headlight bulb cant get back in

Hi i was trying to replace my headlight bulb but instead of taking out the bulb i have pulled out the whole plate. Any ideas as to how i can fix this please ie get the plate back in? I took it to halfords but they couldnt get the plate back in
Ive attached a picture of what i am calling the "plate"

Not supposed to come out as it fits through and engages with the reflector. It will take some force to push it through, I have only done it with older models, and found that the reflector had to be supported so it was necessary to take it out. Hope that there is an easier way but that was how I did it.
