If I were to have 80w or 100w PIAAs and use them on the public highways, what risks do I run ?

I ask because my night vision is crap and I may well need more watts or more carrots in my diet ?

Upgrade to bi xenon... and if that is still not enought then used the high beam dip (that will giv eu x ray vision...)

osram silver stars

Dont know for sure.
POSSIBLE wiring/headlamp melting from increased heat/ higher current draw :(
POSSIBLE interesting in depth discussion of vehicle construction and use section of the road traffic act with the local traffic police.
Have just installed legal OSRAM SILVER STAR+50% Xenons H4s in headlights as recommended by Auto Express. Seem better on the open road but down side is increased light reflection from large road signs.

Silver Stars are Ace. I can even see where I'm going now!

I've always been told that you are best sticking to the recommended Wattages for headlight bulbs when driving modern Mercs as you risk damaging either the housing or the wiring.

Older models (early '90's and earlier) are not so sensitive to high Watt lamp power. I used to have 80 Watt bulbs in my old 1986 W201 190E and they worked a treat. I daren't do that with my current W202.

BTW this is Electronics talk :) Moving...

I came across this some time ago on the other place about high wattage bulbs, looks very nasty

I want to upgrade my lamps but am undecided on silver stars or cool blue?
I see many people on here rate the silver stars but has any one used the cool blue??

Siver Stars are fabbo! I have them in my C280. Dont bother with the blue ones...they may look 'cool' but apparently in tests they actually light up less of the road than the standard bulbs! They just look pretty, thats it.

read here it's quite intersting.

I've installed suitable relays, oversized cables and increased wattage bulbs (they are 100W but after electric measure they are 80W and I prefer this).

There are some photo on the W202 forum of the modification I've done, still utilizing stock headlight plug, etc etc. please search there if you want.

I run this modification since a lot of times (2 years about) without problems.

Further I prefer standard (yellowish) bulb because of better vision respect various "xenon" bulbs.
