Once polished, spraying with a UV stable clear lacquer will extend the life of the work done.

The reason why plastic headlights go like that is BECAUSE of the oxidising of the UV coating , you don't see rear lights going off !

If you sand & polish or just polish and it comes back you haven't removed all the UV coating .

Start with 600 , be brave it's very thick plastic .

3 years , still clear and no UV coat applied .

Last year, I had my car's headlights polished by a pro by taking the whole headlight assembly apart. I had a philips headlight restoration kit at that time. After cleaning the headlight I insisted on putting the UV sealant on headlights lens. After about a year the headlights are cloudy again. Any thoughts what went wrong?

Don’t think anyone really knows (?) if it’s the uv coating that goes yellow or the plastic lens itself, perhaps the coating is there to stop the plastic ageing and cracking and nothing to do with the oxidation, ie uv coating will do its job but it’s not able to stop the lens foggging.
Just surmising as some manufacturers don’t seem to have this problem.
