kit I used has a ceramic coating to finish. It will not last forever but is far cheaper than light replacement
For sure, you made that clear in your post. I was just making the point for anyone that thinks that just cleaning or scraping is enough.

Even "our world" has a lot of people who think that cleaning a car's surface is just getting the ingrained dirt off, without putting on a simple or complex protective coat - against scratches, UV, grease and dirt.
 
I think the purpose of the 'sealant' supplied with most kits is (a) to protect the plastic from UV light and (b) to fill/mask any very fine surface scratches.
Understood. I just commenting for those who think that a quick clean with Autosol or T-Cut is all that's necessary.

(Memories of conversations with my father, decades ago, who thought that chrome polish alone "worked a treat" on metallic paint finishes)
