Just picked up my s211 Advantgarde S and the car is in amazing condition, it looks almost band new.

The one item which wasn't up to standard though was the goo'd up headlight switch panel, it looked like a cheap plastic pound shop toy.

I already had a bottle of sticky stuff remover under the kitchen sink and it worked a treat on a dealer window sticker on my previous car.

Apart from buying a new trim panel from the local MB dealer I thought what the heck let's do it!

1. Apply sticky stuff remover via a kitchen paper towel, let it soak in by dabbing and reapplying.

2. Gently wipe goo away using a clean area of towel used to apply solution, try it in small sections as I found this easiest.

Don't use a dry towel as it'll stick and leave paper fibers to get rid as well.

I also used a small pointed plastic knife to remove the goo around the part edges where it meets the dash panel.

3. Finished it off with some CarPro Perl for a much better medium shine look.

Done!

Had to do the same on the steering wheel multifunction buttons on my S210 - and as the headlight switch panel on the S211 successor is in poor condition it looks like I'll be repeating the exercise! It seems this rubberised finish MB use is not overly long lasting. The S211's panel wasn't too bad but I got over-enthusiastic trying to clean it and ended up with a bare patch which stands out a mile!
One thing I would mention is that I used Isopropyl Alcohol as the first stage softener, removing the softened coating with my fingernail, and rounded off with a clean with GooGone.

Well I got it wrong trying to remove the sticky surface that appeared after the hot summer we had this year!

That sticky stuff was the rubberised paint. Are you going to leave it in 'bare' plastic or recoat it?

I'll leave it bare and keep it clean with the CarPro until transfer's wear off then replace the part.

Old thread I know, but Isopropyl will also remove the goo.
