I know this has been brought up a few times before but i didn't think this fit's into the existing threads, basically as I'm sure you lot know the headliner in the SLK is a cream coloured bit of plastic and i can't stand it so I'm going to trim it to match the interior, this is where the problems start -

I have a black interior and the seats use alcantara patches on the shoulder area's so i initially thought about trimming the roof in that, thing is the more i think about it the more i want to use some nappa on it since that's what most of the interior is covered in.

What do you guy's think? Will using the leather just buy me a first class ticket to trouble down the line, bearing in mind that whatever i use will have to be stuck onto the liner.

Cheers

I think so as the weight will make it pull down.

Id stick to alcantara for it's non reflective finish.

The Nappa should have a dull finish to it but the weight is something to think about.

Thanks

I would like to do this mod :)

I'm sure Dan will let you as long as you make a good job of it...

By all means, if white fancies paying for the material as well then I'm sure i could be persuaded into accepting that :D

I'm gonna get some samples of the material's I'm thinking about, proper nappa, fake nappa, suede, fake suede (alcantara) and see what it's all like in term's of quality and weight and get to work on it.

Eeerh, cough, Mmm. Well, am very busy at the moment..

Shuffles off, stage left.... :D

ive been wanting to do this mod using black or charcoal alcantara for 18 months but cant find anyone in the north west who will do it who comes recommended, can anyone recommend anyone.

I did my SEC in Alcantra.. its much thicker and i had issues with my sunroof getting stuck at the beginning, but cant see this being any issue on a SLK... feels nice too!

Thats very generous of you. Can you do my A class in alcantara at the same time?;) ;)

Seriously though, I know a man in Woking who can do this work. He is very good. He did all the laether trimming in NAV's SEC, my full leather re-trim and specialises in Mercedes. PM me if you want his number.

Thanks guy's, I'm probably going to do it myself so i can get the panel fitted again ASAP since it holds the seals in the correct alignment.

It's a simple enough shape to cover over so hopefully it should be do-able by a wally like me.

My wife used to do whole interiors when we were into the yank scene many moons ago (we had a 5.7 V8 Chevy Camaro). The amount of leather interiors she did was unbelievable and she suggests you use as light a material as possible if it's going to be stuck as the added weight (unless installed profesionally) will pull it down and be a constant nightmare for you.

HaHa! I mean I would like to have this in my car (as I'm sure you understood!)

I have leather but I would like something more "luxurious". What type of leather did you have put in your car?

i've been thinking about the alcantara headlining/pillers etc for a few years and decided to go for it.its a w203 black, black leather,30% smoked tint on the windows, would black alcantara look to dark or should i go for charcoal!

I like the inside of my car's to look dark and sporting so I'd go with a dark colour.

Alcantara comes in more than one colour remember.
