I'm looking for a decent set of headphones and I'll be wearing them when I'm walking the dog mostly, so I'd probably prefer in-ear but I'm no expert so if you think otherwise then let me know.

Budget is up to £150, but I don't mind buying cheaper as long as they are good value (if that makes sense)

Thanks. :)

I have been a big fan of the Klipsch S4 range for some time now.

Indeed I am just about to upgrade my S4s' for a pair of the new S4i IIs because I want a built in microphone for the phone.

Less than a ton and they do take about 50 hours to run in the drivers and they do have a lot of bass but the soundstage is excellent

Very, very highly regarded.

Saying that, I use a pair of Sennheiser HD 219 (about £40 and proper over-ear phones) for my portable needs (ALAC files on iPhone 4). Once run in they are bloody good (voiced very closely to my Linn set-up at home) and also have the benefit of allowing some noise in so you are aware of any noise around you.

I just hate in-ear phones.

Bought a pair of HD 219 after your recommendation on another thread and very pleased with the sound quality. Thanks.

I like my Grado SR60s. Over ear (I hate in ear as they never stay in my ears), open backed and get great reviews in their price bracket. I haven't heard any of the ones mentioned so cannot compare. I use them with Creative Labs Zen Touch MP3 player and would miss them if I didn't have them.

Audiotechnica M50 for over ears

I had a pair of cheap (25 quid) sony in-ear a few years ago that were surprisingly good. I dont like in-ears anymore but did like the sound in the sonys, and they offer better better noise cancelling then my bose over ears (and better sound)

I bought some Bose IE 2 earlier, they were half price in the Comet sale, reduced from £90 to £45.

First impressions (while listening to New Order) are that they are very clear, a nice bass and I can also hear instruments that I didn't even know were there.

Thanks for all your inputs.

These Bose that I've just bought have these ear moulding things, so they stay in your ears.

That's probably how I'd describe the Grados - the bass was a surprise and the feeling of hearing everything also.

That's what I'd need for in-ears to work for me.

I watch the F1 drivers putting their in-ear plugs/phones in their ears prior to a race. F1 may be the highest tech sport ever, but the fluid used to ease insertion of the plugs - their own spit!

I love my Monster Dre Beats..

I have the over ear ones for running and the expensive ones for watching movies on the laptop.... The sound on both is simply breathtaking.. Obviously the £300 ones are just out of this world.

Nothing else came close, I tried them all in the shop.

I have a pair of B&O A8s (I think) that have never been used if anyone wants to make me an offer (I bought B&W C5s instead).

You're six hours too late!

How much do you want for them?

For all you aging rockers out there (me included), Motorhead have put there name to a range of headphones and I'm reliably informed that they work very, very well with the heavy rock.
To that end I've just ordered a set of in ear phones for use with my Iphone, has the mic.
I'll let you know how they sound :)

Recommendations for headphones and similar to recommendations for shoes.

Every time it comes down to preference. I don't get on with the sound of the Beats range, bass is far too overblown, but obviously Jay is happy with them.

Generally i've found various sets of Sennheiser and AKG phones match my preference.

Always best to go to a decent retailer and demo them all. Ideally on whichever device you will use them with.

It is also surprising that some £50 phones will outperform £200 phones, so always best to demo without knowing the price tag...you'll be surprised.
