Hi all

Anyone recently installed those aftermarket headrests with the adjustable poles and built in tv dvds ?
There are millions on ebay and I'd like to quickly whip some in the Q7 we're buying, dont want to go down the velcro-attached removeable type.
Just looking for a recommendation really.

Theres someone with a A Class has them fitted and they look great,

It was on a recent thread I though?

So mine are here and they look fine - the colour match is pretty good.

Now to figure out the install....

Yes thats me. Two main threads on the Xtrons is the link EDZ posted and http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/electronics/84607-headrests-built-dvd.html

Hi NPUK - I have a question around the poles - did you ever swap yours over?

The ones installed look too small. The larger ones that come as spares look more like it and I want to fit them.

BUT there's no way of removing them with the wiring in place (the poles won't side over the connectors that are already in place.

Inside the unit (when the drive is opened) I can see 4 x phillips screws - I'm guessing that if I take them out I might be able to get to the inside of the unit and disconnect the wiring there ?

Your not meant to swap the poles. The 12mm adapters go in the holes in your seat that the headrest pole slides into. I found the fit a bit loose but you can use some electrical insulation tape or similar on both sets of poles to get a tighter fit.

Thanks!

The HK English instructions are a little hard to follow.

....so I've now offered one up and it looks fine, although the size will take a little while to get used to - they are a lot larger than the originals and of a bulkier design. For an (adult) back seat passenger it would block a fair bit of the view. For me, though, it means small kids keeping quiet over longer journeys.

As per NPUK's comments the poles are a little loose in the sleeves (partly I suspect because my seats had electric headrests and therefore no manual adjustment thingy on one of the posts).

I'll use some electrical tape as NPUK did.

Second one in. They do look pretty big compared to what was there before.......but my wife thinks they look great (always a result). The kids, meanwhile, are besides themselves with excitement.

Tomorrow it's off the BSG to have an oil change and get them wired in properly.

Glad they arrived in time for the trip to the indie :-)

Yes I use them and they're fab.

Hi TPWUK - two quick questions

(1) power off
is there a way of powering them off and restarting them at the same point in the DVD? The indie tried "stop" but the seem to start at the beginning?

(2) green wire
there's a green wire coming out of the unit alongside one of the Svideo leads - is is for an antennae or something?

Thanks

Green wire is antenna for the built in FM transmitter.

To be honest, I've not checked if the DVD restarts. So far I've only used the USB and SD card slot. I've got 32GB of storage between the two headrests. That's an awful lot of kids divx files!!

I am so 20th century......busy filling one wallet with CD's (for me) and the other with DVD's (for the kids)

When you say 32Gb of storge - do you men in tems of cards, etc - if so, what are you using?
