was just wondering were heated wing mirrors an optional extra on my c180 coupe ?
Would have thought it was a standard item.
W201s had them as standard from the late '80's.
If the car is newish to you, you will find out when winter comes There is no seperate switch for heated mirrors, I think it is with the heated windscreen, but not sure on that.
The mirrors were misted up earlier in the week for the first time since I bought it. They didn't de-mist themselves . Is there any way I can check if they are heated or not without taking the mirrors apart ?
If you touch the mirror with the back of your fingers you will feel heat from the glass in about 30 to 60 seconds, that is, if it is a cool enough day. When the glass gets hot enough… after about 2 minutes?... to demist the mirror, the heater element on the back of the mirror will turn off, it will continue this on off cycle while the ignition is turned on.
Thanks , if they are heated they are not working . Would they have their own fuse ?
The could be sharing a fuse with other consumers OR it is simply too warm for them to come on, wherever you are at the moment. Ignition has to be on for them to work, check them late at night or early in the morning when it will be cooler.
Do they come on when you turn on the rear window heater?
I thought they only came on when the rear window heater was turned on.
As Dec says, they'll only come on if ambient temp is low enough.
There's no swtich, they just come on when outside temp is below (I think) 15 DegC.
What was outside temp when you tried this?
I can't remember if I put the rear window heater on or not ? I will give that a try when this heatwave is over . Thanks
Are you sure........all my previous cars (not Mercedes) door mirror heaters only ever came on when I turned the rear window heater on as far as I can remember.
One of the many reasons why you switched to MB I feel.
OP, have you RTFM?
I knew there was a reason!
They come on at temps below 15degC. They come on automaticly
They only come in at below a certain temp... 5 deg rings a bell so they wont work at this time of year.
The only way to tell for sure id by checking your spec so post either your reg or vin (or pm me) and ill check it.
EDIT: I see olly posted the correct temp is 15deg...
thanks olly and jaymanek looks like the problem is solved
or not , its been lower than 15degc this week and they definitely aren't working.
i have checked all the fuses i could find and they are all ok
