CLK 320
Bit of a strange one this. The heaters on my car (2000 CLK 320) were working fine when I put it away in the garage for winter, but when I went to run it (roll the tyres & charge the battery) the heater has stopped working. I have searched and read the numerous threads about the brushes in the heater wearing but mine was fine when parked but now wont give anything. When I turn it from off to position one I can hear what sounds like vents opening then nothing else on any position. Couple of threads have mentioned the switch itself, but surely this wont pack up just by sitting idle for a month?

Unfortunately I cant take it for a run because I've sorned it for winter.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Might have blown a fuse ? FUSES AND RELAYS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX AND AT THE END OF THE DASHBOARD .

Am I being completely dim but I fail to see how either of these items can pack up with the car just sitting in the garage?

Why not? The longer the brushes sit unused, the greater the risk of them sticking.

Turn the speed control to Hi then give the motor a smack.

Possible not to have blown anything by sitting in the garage. Unfortunately when you started it up any stiffness that has set in may cause a fuse to blow or cause damage to motor brushes. Motor brushes can suffer from sticktion where lack of use causes them to stick to the motor winding.

Hi Rob,

Following your rationale, what items can pack up just sitting in the garage? :D

As has been said, it is most likely to be the motor or regulator, it is not fused.

I see the points that the brushes may stick, and I suppose even in a dry well ventilated garage there will always be an element of condensation and moisture in the air. Looks like it will be a job for the spring once the car goes back on the road, it will just sit there niggling in the back of my head as a job and expense to deal with but there is little point in doing it until I start using the car again.

Has anyone ever come up with a supplier of the brushes? As I have seen a lot of threads about it but not a conclusive answer as to a supplier.

Alex Crow, just checked out your web page and seen that you are in Stowmarket that is handy to know, as I'm only a few miles away in Tostock!!
