Hello folks, hopefully back driving a merc again as I have just sold my XJ8 Sport.
Just a couple of questions...
A c class kompressor - any good?
Any hints about what to look for and drivers views gratefully recieved.

Or,
Would I be better getting a 6 cylinder version?

It must be a sport though.

Oh, and about £7k

Thanks in advance
Mike.

In short IMHO if you want easy power on demand the the 4 kompressor is the way to go BUT V6 if you want a cruiser with a glorious sound that can go once wound up.
The w202 c230k is the most powerful and most economic (on paper :) ) petrol model. The 4cyl engine also costs less to service than 6cyl.

I just had a look on autotrader's website, and for about 7 grand you could get quite a tidy facelift (1997+) c230k. Make sure you get metallic paint, leather and aircon, they make basically no difference to price but are nice to have.

V6 owners reckon their engines sound nice, but the kompressor whine/whistle is a sound no amount of additional cylinders will produce :) .

Never mind all this talk of 4 or 6 cylinders, 5 cylinders are the best, get an oil burner. :D

I think the diesels make a lovely growl, not noisy or harsh.

The C280 is a lovely motor, performance is almost identical to the C230K but a little more refined and a bit thirstier.

Buy a decent motor like mine. :D :D :D LOL

Thanks Folks,
Guess its up to the test drive then.
Jimmy - I doubt if Iwould get a turbo diesel for 7k. but I must admit, I do like the idea.
Anything is better than the Jag V8 for consumption. (good mill though)
Mike.

Try www.autotrader.co.uk A reasonable range of C250TD's, Their showing a 97 C250TD Sport for £6995.
