Hello peeps, David from the sunny south here.

Just purchased an oldish SL280 (1998) and have owned an oldish (2000) E240 estate since 2002. Especially interested in sourcing some cool stuff to pimp out my underpowered but unmarked SL. could just pretend it's an SL500?!?

Hi and Welcome...

Keep your SL original and cruise in style.:thumb:

Mr Gray I presume?

Seconded - original, unmolested cars will be rare and valuable in a few years.

Although in Hayling you might want to upgrade the anti corrosion :)

Hello and Welcome from Sunny Southampton :thumb:

Hey, I'm new here from cosham, just up the road, having a poke around to see who's got what and where :)
...... Hmmmm that could be read the wrong way! Haha

Thanks for you rkind welcomes, I think I will just be content to keep the old girl on the road and making me feel like a million dollars driving her. have a few little projects to attack;

2 tiny rust spots - getting quotes now
A few minor scratches
A Missing hardtop, to source and paint
A very low front skirt that catches every time I go in or out of my drive (ouch!!) Anyone else experience such problems with their SL?

Brian told me you'd bought a SL280 - I figured out the rest. :D

The front skirt does seem low on the later models, especially if the car has been lowered even by an inch. I cant park nose in to kerbs without risking catching the front skirt.

Do you mean that there is a place in the Caribbean that's also called Southampton :dk:

Sent from Sunny (Sometimes) Southport :D

Anyway… … welcome, David. IMO the best way to "pimp out" a classic SL is with the application of lots and lots of polish :thumb:

Spike, I believe we have met in days long gone...just north of Slough? Brian had told me I wouldn't get better than 22 mpg but so far 2.8 seems very economical. I would have loved 5 but couldn't afford to run it.

PS still have a rusting old E240 which breaks my heart every time I see it. Lovely drive but bodywork to cry for!
