Hello - New E350 CDI on order

Thanks for the advice Mike - is there anything that you would recommend for treating the seats?

Regards,
Phil.

I use a special leather protector that are supplied to us by Mr.CAP here in Sweden on all our demo cars. But talking to your local detailer you should be able to get something good. I can also recommend talking to any shop that sell saddles for horses they often have great products for protecting their saddles as they are expensive as h..l :) To remove any coloring I recommend using a wet microsponge just be sure not to rub it to hard as you can easily rub of the die as well.

I had my CLK for over 10 years and it had light grey leather. Most of the time I wear blue jeans, but there wasn't a sign of any marks on the leather when I sold it recently. I never used any special cleaner, just an occasional wipe over with a damp cloth. I gave the leather a treat with Autoglym leather cream about every other year. Simples!

There is a world of difference in the texture between the seats in your CLK and the new cars. For some reason the new seats catches coloring from dark clothes and then especially blue jeans much more easily unfortunately.

Thanks Mike. I've just got a brand new car and it also has light grey leather so perhaps I better take more care of it.

My car has cappaccino leather and that pics up dye from jeans very easily too.

I'm not convinced a leather protector will help - the dirt/dye will just sit on the surface, so the leather will still look dirty :dk:.

Keep a pack of baby wipes in the car, they work wonders.

I also clean the leather regularly with Gliptone G12 - a small amount of cleaner with a damp sponge works perfectly.

IMO never let the dirt stay on too long. Works for me.

PS, Almond beige is lovely Phil, congrats on ordering a lovely car.

i concur! the grey seats in our old CLK were in brilliant condition after 4.5 years. the pale grey in the E350 had a small blue mark on the passenger seat within a week! :wallbash:

I agree with you that the dirty/dye still will be there even with a leather protector that is one of the key points with using it. It helps to keep dirt/dye from penetrating the grain of the leather and thus making it easier to clean. It also helps to keep the original dye of the leather intact. The further down any contaminant gets into the leather the harder you need to work to get it out and the harder you work on it the faster you will start to get into the original dye.

My understanding is the modern leathers are coated and as such do not absorb anything into the grain. But I take your point, a barrier of any sort will make it easier to keep the leather clean. Alternatively a regular quick wipe of the leather with a purpose made cleaner will also keep the leather as new and prevent any long term staining.

The Heated Rear Seats seem like rare option ?

My daughters like them. I guess it takes the edge off the cold leather seats during the colder months.

Phil.

Thanks Ace571, we're really looking forward to collecting the car in 4 weeks or so. Most looking forward to getting back into an automatic.

Phil.

The car that we test drove had natural beige, which we liked, but we went for almond beige as we weren't ordering a sunroof and felt it would help to keep the interior nice and bright.
Almond Beige looks great and in conjunction with the Macadamia Beige headlining really lightens the cabin. I paired it with Indium Grey as the exterior colour and also added Brown Open-pore Ash trim which gives a great contrast with the black dash and centre console. I'm sure you'll be very happy with your colour choice :thumb:

Thanks Phil, counting down the days.

Notice you have an ST1300 - nice bike - I have a 1200GSA. Given the choice of a trip on the bike or in the car, I would usually choose the bike, but the new car might just change my mind....for a while!

Phil.

Thanks. You must have longer legs than me as the GS/GSA is just too tall for my little legs :)

I confess to not having ridden the Pan that much in the last couple of years. My wife bought an SLK350 and the ability to just walk out of the house, get in the car and drop the roof tends to win out over the almost military-style operation that getting togged up for the bike entails :(

BTW, are you on the GS-ER forum? I tend to mostly lurk there but do join in occasionally.

The GSA does provide a good stretch in the legs - I can just about flat foot it. The petrol tank is quite large for a bike - last fill-up cost me £45!

Yes, I read the UKGSER forum and participate ocassionally - it's very useful for planning trips.

The SLK350 does sound a lot more comfortable than a bike.

Phil.
