As I posted elsewhere my contact at Mercedes says:-

"With regards to MobiloLife, this product has now been replaced with
"Mobilo" from 1st April 2008 for all new registrations and the website will
be updated next week to reflect the changes. We plan within this update to
publish a spreadsheet which identifies the main differences between this
offer and previous incarnations of roadside assistance offers (mobilolife
etc.). This comparison will contain the correct data that you refer to in
your earlier correspondence."

Here are the main changes: -
NEW MOBILO for vehicles registered after April 1st will have unconditional cover for 4 years (48 months) from initial registration.

Once the vehicle reaches it's 5th year, Mobilo is renewed each time a scheduled service is carried out by a Mercedes-Benz Authorised Repairer and remains valid until the next service is due, for a maximum of 30 years. If a service is overdue or has been carried out outside the Mercedes-Benz network at the time of assistance, from the 5th year, Mobilo does not apply. This can be reinstated by the completion of a Mercedes-Benz service.
----------------------------------

Minor Mishaps cover is for 3 years for cars registered between January 1st 2004 and March 31st 2008. But things will be better under new Mobilo. Cover will be for four years AND: -
“From 5th year, cover will be renewed if the service continues to be carried out by a Mercedes-Benz Authorised Repairer to a maximum of 30 years.

MBUK will confirm the method of renewal/extension to the retail network in 2010.”

(IMO leaves open the ability to impose charges?)

OTHER POINTS

A major improvement appears to be that the points raised here in many threads about the need to keep ‘Minor Mishaps’ cover for more than just the first three years has been listened to. Wait till it is confirmed on the website, but the version I have seen suggests flat tyre, light left on/flat battery, wrong fuel, Out of fuel, Keys locked inside vehicle, incorrect coolant or oil levels, water ingress multiple flat tyres and Accident/Vandalism will all be covered for 30 years subject to the conditions on servicing above. To me that looks like a real and valuable improvement. I repeat the warning that there appears to be provision to charge after 4 years but that is better than now and a reasonable charge would be acceptable to many rather than lose the cover IMO.

There are various other small changes but these are the main ones.

FOR ALL CARS registered before April 1st 2008 MobiloLife will continue as before.

It's a good system now, having used it over the years successfully and I haven't a bad word to say for the present system. So improving on a 10/10 system is even better.

Does this mean, although I had a service at an Independent, if I have my next service at MB then my Mobilo carries on?

Also, sorry for going off topic, will this last service affect my trade in value much?

Yes and Yes.:D

Thanks Hawk - you're doing a sterling service -- much appreciated..

I want to sign up for the 3yr/90K mile for £675 deal! :bannana:

Why? Do you need your tail lift covered? lol:D

Just found this on the commercial side of things, but interesting...

May be how the Service plus is going to be?

Cheers

:)

Very interesting. BUT it is the Repair and Maintenance package that seems to be completely missing from the new retail customer service contracts. That is the bit so many would like to have.

Doesn't say whether these commercial packages are only available on new vehicles or can older ones have them too?

Are those commercial packages new? Any idea what was there before?

MB told me that the car Service and ServicePlus schemes are run on the commercial system (hence the distances are in Kms).

Sorry I don't know, just started looking at info on vans as I'll be needing one again.

I believe glojo has a van, perhaps he will be able to shed some light ;-)

Cheers

Seems very odd that such schemes can be provided for vans and not for cars. The logic escapes me.

Competition. Look at the labour rates they're quoting - half the dealer typical rate. Commercial parts are very price sensitive too - fleet managers compare a basket of parts to see who is cheapest.

I read about someone who found the headlight on his Volvo car was also used on a Volvo truck - car price £200, truck price £40.

Van...........Van sir!!!!
I do happen to own a magnificent 'stretched limo' in tealite blue and I suppose it might be described as a ...... van :o

By pure coincidence Mercedes-Benz have been pestering me to replace my excellent stretched limo for the latest all singing, all dancing new Sprinter and to this end they have sent all types of literature on the latest Sprinter.

This literature skips over the detail regarding the various service packages but what does surprise me is the following.

"Extended service intervals help to keep costs down: the CDI engines offer oil change intervals of at least 24,000 miles and with the standard ASSYST maintenance computer intervals could extend to a maximum of 31,000 miles.

12-year corrosion perforation warranty."

"In the UK, the Sprinter benefits from a 2-year manufacturer's warranty and, in addition, a third year dealer warranty with unlimited mileage (terms and conditions apply - please see your dealer for information)"

These service packages are usually based on service intervals vs time period and the manufacturer takes a gamble on making a profit regarding these two factors, so we pays our money and takes our chances.

I accept the service intervals I have posted are different from those that 124fan has kindly posted but I am merely the messenger and have typed the relevant information word, for word from the very latest literature.

If the commercial package only applies to new Sprinters, then could the link be out of date as it highlights an older model?

I have owned a Sprinter ever since they were first introduced, my first was the 212 and the one we have now is the 213. I have nothing but praise for them and here is a list of non service issues we have had.

212 (automatic)
TWO replacement sets of rear door hinges (fixed under warranty)

213 (Sprint-Shift)
Replaced defective axillary battery

That's it, no other broken bits, we did have a rear brake sensor replaced under a recall but apart from that both have been rock solid, so when I replace this vehicle it will be with another Sprinter.

Apologies if I have gone slightly off topic.

Regards
John
