CLK 280 ragtop
Hi Everyone thanks for accepting me as a new member, so I have joined the MB world and bought my wife what I believe to be one of the finest ragtops a 2006 CLK Avantgarde. I have bought this car as a bargain basement project for next summer at a give away price as its that time of year, it has done 83,000 miles from new with full service history.

The rear bumper has some slight damage but have bought a replacement for £160 delivered in the 357 colour. The wheels require refurbing but apart from that its in excellent condition.

So I have some questions as a novice on these beasts. I should point out I am fully versed on vehicle electronics (have landrover Disco 3 and full diagnostics) I can rebuild engines with my eyes shut as I restore classic japanese motorcycles and have rebuilt many car engines in the past few decades. I am very willing to learn and contribute if I can so the questions are as follows:-

  1. What is the best budget diagnostics for the CLK that can also diagnose the roof control (I have looked at the Icarsoft MB II)?
  2. Can I upgrade to a bluetooth interface, if so what are the options?
  3. Is the balance shaft gear wear inevitable, if so when are the symptoms likely to appear
  4. is the above a DIY job or does it require a lift
  5. Where can I source and get a spare key programmed
  6. Are there any other gremlins I should be aware of and address/look for
Looking forward to any responses and any members in Dorset who may be able to help going forward..

Many thanks in advance

.

Can't help with them all but fitting a Bluetooth stereo is a pain in the ****. You can get a key programmed off eBay for about £130.

Sorry I can't help with your other queries - all I would say is keep it serviced. Nice cars,I had one of them.

Welcome to the forum longclose. What part of Dorset?

I'll try and answer some of your questions.

1 If you don't want to go down the route of a Star set up (MB specific diagnostics) the Icarsoft MB2 is considered the one to get.
2. Its possible but expensive if you want to play music through a bluetooth setup. If its just for calls in and out a second hand Viseeo is the way to go.
Which model depends on the type of connector you have in the centre storage compartment.
Comandonline are the people t speak to. Have your Vin' handy and they can recommend what you need and availability.
Catalog
3 &4 Cant help with these
5. Beware of used keys and people who say they can be reprogrammed.
RMK are the company recommended mostly to get another key. Not cheap, but better than the £250 the main dealer will ask you for:(
Mercedes key specialists- Need new Mercedes keys? Replacementmercedeskeys.co.uk
6. I'm unfamiliar with the CLK so can't really help again.

Incidentally, for jobs beyond your scope this MB indy is very good. Works from home in a well appointed workshop with a single post lift, he charges £48 an hour compared to maindealer prices that are over double. Worth putting in your address book.
